Explain why one should train at goal fitness?
As long as the goal is actually achievable why not train at goal fitness?
The adaptation process is stupid specific, especially when it comes to running economy and really that’s what we all are doing right?
Run intervals at goal pace. As you progress you are either adjusting duration, volume or rest. Also frequency to some extent in some situations.

Right on, Runningart2004!
Here is Brad Hudson´s Goal Pace Progression:
8 X 600 @ GP w/ 2:00 rest
6 X 800 @ GP w/ 2:00 rest
5 X 1000 @ GP w/ 2:00 rest
5 X 1000 @ GP w/ 1:30 rest
5 X 1000 @ GP w/ 1:00 rest
If your Goal Pace is realistic than this progression can be very helpful at helping you achieve your goals over the course of 5+ weeks.
