It's not jealousy.
The trigger is that by entering shamelessly the marathon realm, she's made her first step as a LRC approved MILF.
"I'm not thinking about making the team. I'm thinking about gold in Munich."
When a man says that, he's gutsy and bold. When a woman says it, she's delusional.

Is this English?
The words are English but the sentence doesn't make sense. I think Banana Bread means something like:
Many of the people who dislike Gwen Jorgensen (a female) are males who used to be D1 runners with slower PRs than Gwen's.

I mean, she can go for it, but the fact is she wants an Olympic gold when she very well might not make it of of the trials. Then she says "Oh, I'm mad I'm not in 2:19 shape.
It's not ambitious, it's... It's like if Jim Wamsley said he was going to win gold.
Yeah he's fast, and tore up another running related sport. Yeah, maybe he runs fast and makes the team
But Wamsley isn't out here complaing that he's not in 2:04 shape and saying he wants gold.
If he did we'd make fun of him too.
So no, it's not just Gwen and it's not because she's a woman.
Amen, and serena wasn't treated differently to any man having a tantrum
Like I have TIME to dislike Gwen Jorgensen.
She is a 2: 40 marathoner that everyone has already put on the podium.
The nonsense that she is a novice elite runner, she has trained at the highest level imaginable as an olympic triathlete. To say she is leaning anything is absurd.
We think we have to romance a story line.
She is a strong determined athlete who feels she can run faster, she will. How fast we will see in the am.
After her gold in Tokyo her plans are as follows:
Win gold at Tour de France .
First person to open swim around Cape Horn
First person to summit Everest while walking on their hands.
First person to army crawl across the Sahara without hydration of any kind.
First person to will themselves into flight without mechanical assistance.
Following the completion of the last goal she will fade into the distance as she ascends into the heavens never to be seen again
I think that Gwen Jorgensen comes off as extremely unappreciative of her position, which is obviously a huge turn off for many people. She has a ton of talent and has so far accomplished things many people can only dream of, and yet she is "annoyed" to not be in even better shape.
I was a ~9:30 3200 guy (before I got way better in college, so I have *some* understanding of both sides here) and at an invite with a ton of rainfall I ran a 9:41 for a slow win (PA weather for ya). After the race I'm kind of annoyed back at the team tent and one of the really slow JV kids asks why. I made something up, because to tell an 11:5x kid whose never won a race in their life that you're mad you won a race in a paltry 9:41 makes you seem really out of touch as a team leader. I'm not trying to make myself out to be some beacon of humility, or to crucify Gwen here, because there is definitely another side to this.
I really don't think that the world of elite running needs to be as catered to hobby jogging as it is today. In all sports, there is an understood us and them. In something like basketball, there is an obvious distinction between someone playing in an adult league and an NBA player, and that distinction is respected. For Stephen Curry, making less than 42% of his 3 pointers from an NBA line against all-NBA defenders is a below average game. For your average Joe, making 20% of your 3 pointers against your buddies from the YMCA line might be a great day, but that average Joe still understands why
Well, add me to group that dislikes Gwen Jorgensen. She is delusional about her running ability. Wants to win the Olympics and can't even hang with 2:30 pace.
Hopefully the running media can focus on women that actually perform. And get Rochelle Kanuho a sponsorship.
