Great, thoughtful response.

She has PROVEN nothing of that ability of making the team for 2020 let alone win the gold medal. We will see on Sunday, but until then- stay in the peanut gallery where you have PROVEN you belong.
Galen Rupp hadn't been PROVEN either before the 2016 Olympic trials.
I think Gwen will finish in 2:27:00-2:28:00 and come in either 5th, 6th or 7th place based on the starting elite list. Will probably lose to Roza Dereje (2018 Dubai Champion). Birhane Dibaba (2018 Tokyo Champion), Brigid Kosgei (2018 London Runner-Up), and Shure Demise (2018 Tokyo 4th place).
Gwen could beat Florence Kiplagat due to DNF (she DNF 2017 and hasn't raced in 2018).
Gwen will be battling Laura Thweatt who's coming back from injury but ran 70:11 in July for 5th place.
I think that Vipam and Old SMTC are right on. Her 15:15 5K and subsequent races indicate she is fully capable of getting to the 2:25 range, and Shumacher has shown he knows how to train female marathoners. If conditions are decent I predict she goes out 1:12-1:13ish and comes back to finish somewhere between 2:24 low and 2:25 high.

So you are saying there is a chance she will be the first clean athlete?

yup, I agree with this. I'd say sub 2:30 is 'fine' for where she's at.
I agree with most here: anytihng under 2:28 would be a big win if she negative splits the race. She'll gain such confidence over that, say running 1:14 and 1:13 as opposed to going out in 1:12 and struggling home. A 2:28 in her first serious year of marathon training would put her in the conversation of being able to pull a surprise run at the trials.
All this bull about people wanting her to fail because, gasp!, she has the nerve to market herself, is by runners who are like cancer: they're part of this body of athletes but they turn and attack anyone and anything different from themselves. They're the reason we never grow, never change, never advance.

She gonna mop the floor with y'all.
I don't understand. Why would a spectator be scared of her? Sure, some people might be jealous, but how is she going to mop the floor or scare people who aren't competing against her?
As a huge Gwen supporter my official prediction:
2:22:59

Unless the weather is perfect I think she's gonna have a really hard time getting significantly under 230.
I think she has the talent to run low 2:20... I just think it's a huge jump with not much buildup.
She is a phenomenal talent so I hope this doesn't discourage her if she runs slow. Again I hope I'm totally wrong and she runs to 2:23.
Chicago is just going to be a training race to make sure she has a Olympic qualification time under her belt. Do not expect anything more than a 2:30 at this point.
To keep her shoulders down and relaxed.

If she and her team could somehow show a little constraint, not likely, then a negative split 2:28 (1:15/1:13) would be a great achievement.
If she goes for the win and runs a 2:27 (1:11/1:16) then I would consider that a set back.
I'd rather see her use this marathon as a stepping stone rather than a statement that she's a contender today.
....
Did you not read the article? She said she's running her own race and hope to negative spilt/even spilts and not chase the leaders because its about gaining experience for 2020 trials. READ THE ARTICLE!
You are replying to a person who says a 2:28 would be a success and a 2:27 would be a setback. That should disqualify them from any more posts on the subject.

Purity of the sport? Running is simple. You start there and finish there with your feet. And she's doing that. And currently she is one of the top US female distance runners.
Pretending to be elite? Well she is elite. I sense you are just jealous.
Gold in the marathon? It's called aiming high.
Naw, that was a huge Dis to the the top elite runners who have given blood, sweat and tears over the years to be great. Sorry, can't root for it.
aiming high by saying you will be ready for GOLD in under 2 years , at a distance and racing level that you have no experience?
Hell, she's not even top 8 in america.

Only person I see her beating is Laura, but we will find out Sunday.
I think Scorpion is an ex-boyfriend of Gwen's. He cannot stand anybody who supports her.
I think she'll run between 2:24-2:29, depending how the day goes. This is practice and the time and place ultimately don't matter much.
I don't really like the attention-seeking media presence (and I think her stated goal of gold in the marathon is disrespectful to people who know the sport) but I wish the Africans in particular had more of one.
Seriously, it may cost her several minutes at the end of the race.

I predict 2:27:38 for her. It'll keep her dream alive, but she won't be top 3 at the 2020 trials marathon.
This isn't about trash talk, though. She simply stated her goals and people find them very unlikely due to her newness in the sport and past performances. If [insert new male runner to the sport] said they wanted to go out and run a 2:04 for their first marathon, they would similarly get crucified.
