Bekele is the GOAT and it isn't close.
I agree Bekele is the GOAT and Kip is of course marathon GOAT, but you're too quick to dismiss Farah. He will end up with range from 3:28 to 2:03, and I definitely disagree on the 5K a few weeks back - he would've put those Ethiopians to bed the same as he's done so many times before........
No. He maybe marathon GOAT but not overall distance GOAT and definitely not athletics GOAT. Those go to Kenenisa Bekele and Carl Lewis (hate to admit it ) respectively.
Haile Geb is the goat. Bekele #2. Kipchoge #3.

Ha ha, this made me spray a mouthful of my morning coffee across the room. Thanks for the laugh...
Must have really burned to have conceded that when then wanting to contend that the DOUBLE OLYMPIC 5K CHAMPION couldn't cut it at, er, 5k! Ha ha ha...

Unfortunately Trackbot! was murdered by a pair of unscrupulous men, say no more but like all icons he did leave us some incredible wisdom.

Ah the return of Doot Doot ?
Need I remind you that El Guerrouj never lost to Bekele?
I like Moroccan runners ?

Doesn’t make any sense. So with that “logic” I guess zersaney tadesse is a greater runner tha Bekele because he has medals in road ( half marathon), World XC, and Track? Do you you feel comfortable calling Z- Man a greater distance runner than Bekele because that’s basically what you’re doing?
No. Because Geb is obviously a better candidate.
Bekele can’t be the GOAT, but he’s still better than Tadese at XC, track, and the marathon. But this is about the overall distance GOAT, not specific disciplines.
But did I ever say that? No. Kipchoge is a better candidate for overall GOAT than Bekele, but Geb is obviously the best choice.
Tadese and Kamworor are better candidates for overall GOAT but they, like Kipchoge, fail because Geb is far and away the best choice.
Bekele can be GOAT at individual disciplines without being considered the overall GOAT. It doesn’t mean Kipchoge, Tadese, or Kamworor would beat him in every race because the title ‘overall GOAT’ by definition doesn’t apply to any specific discipline.
Assertion. Back it up.
I don't know about GOAT, but Kipchoge's marathon WR rates 1316 points in the IAAF Scoring Tables, which equates to 12:31.72 5k and 26:05.24 10k, so it's a better performance than Bekele's WRs, according to the tables.
El G owned Bekele every time they raced. It was a thing of beauty to watch.
Cool thing about El Guerrouj was his absolute dominance. He didn't lose a single time in 1996 before tripping in the Olympic Final 1500m. He then went undefeated in 1997 until the final race, a Grand Prix in JPN in a 4:04 race!! He then ripped off undefeated seasons in 1998, 1999, and 2000 until he lost to Noah Ngeny in that now famous Olympic 1500m Final. He then went undefeated in 2001, 2002, and into 2003 with a record of 100-2 before placing 2nd to Kipchoge in that 5000m Final in Paris. Three losses in 7 years!!
The man has probably the fewest losses on his resume of any multiple Olympic champion.
Long live the GOAT.

But couldn’t you say the same thing about Bekele?
Undefeated in 10,000m for his first 11? Races. And then on track I think he didn’t lose from 2006 to 2009 in golden league and WC races

The 5000 and 10000 have a lot fewer upsets than either the 1500 or the marathon. Look at what Mo Farah did.
El G is seriously underrated, I think because we just all take it for granted that he doped.

But Kipchoge lost in the Olympics twice to Bekele 2004 and 2008 in which Bekele won the 10K before the 5k each year. Bekele also set the OR 12:57.82 in his 2008 win, one of the many records he holds. along with 3 Olympic golds. Kipchoge now has one.
18 WC golds - Bekele, 2 WC golds Kipchoge.
It's not even close.
Bekele is the GOAT.
Kipchoge is superior in range of medals across disciplines and distances. Bekele has no medals in championship road running, which is why his claim to GOAT fails.
Road running isn't as competitive as track though. How many marathons will all of the world's best marathoners line up for? None. Ethiopia didn't even let Bekele run the Olympic marathon in Rio. Either way Bekele has both more records and titles in more events than kipchoge. I don't see how that's a comparison. As for the person mentioning Mo. Mo lacks fast times to go with his dominance. And for anyone mentioning geb. It's very close but bekele just has faster times

imo, it's Bekele > Geb > Kipchoge. If we're talking marathon only, it's obviously Kipchoge
Bekele GOAT of distance runners, overall.
Kipchoge GOAT of all marathoners, ever.
Gebrselassie GOAT in more ways than just running, much as Muhammad Ali was the GOAT.
