Calling it here, Farah will beat Rupp at Chicago. He will cry.

42 second margin.
Wait, who is going to cry..Farah or Rupp?

Good point! Both!
This is a weird race. In the past Olympics I would have said it's Mo versus Galen. But in this race I feel like Mo is racing versus Salazar. This is really a testament to what Mo can do with his new coaching setup and Rupp is just the representative of the old coaching setup. If Mo wins, then everyone will just talk about how Mo has always crushed Galen. If Galen wins, then Mo's camp is going to have to handle the fallout of finally losing on a big stage to Galen when the obvious variable was a change in coaching.
This is a toss up. Neither has impressed me in the marathon. Both have bean beaten in the final miles of big races by veterans.
I should add the caveat that I think they are both great runners. World class. When I say they haven't impressed me in the marathon I just mean that neither has demonstrated a clear ability to a destroy an elite pack at the end of a marathon.
Kipchoge should bandit it and jog off to the side at the finish to remind everyone whose BOSS

Why would Mohammed Farah win by 42 seconds when he can win by 0.042 seconds? Farah's ideal race strategy is take the lead with 450m to go and stay one or two centimetres ahead of his competition.

Farah will surge past Rupp at mile 23 and Rupp will lose his composure as he’ll see the writing in the wall and start going backwards. Farah will win the race by a margin of 42 seconds.
Do you need diagrams?
I love Sir Mo but I just don't really get this Sir Mo Vs Rupp "rivalry" some want to build on these boards.
I mean, they're not really in the same class, and I very much doubt double DOUBLE Olympic champion Sir Mo spends much time at worrying about Rupp.
As for Galen, well just give the guy a break - he's just trying his best (as long as the weather is ok & he doesn't have any slight strains / pulls to worry about).

I agree with this somewhat but Rupp looked dominant in what he did in the final miles of Chicago last year. He took the lead and hammered home, dropping everyone in the process. You can argue that the field wasn't 'elite' enough but very few would have been able to match him in that situation. Last 5 miles were at 2:00-flat marathon pace. BUT the race went out slow and was set up for a faster finish. It'll be interesting to see how Chicago 2018 plays out. After perfecting the sit and kick game on the track, Mo has only run paced marathons & now Chicago has pacers back. You would think Mo would have been a huge threat in the final miles if he had run Chicago last year. I imagine they'll request the pacers to go out at 1:02-1:03 range this year. It'll be interesting to see how everyone is feeling at mile 20.

+10
Didn’t Rupp just drop out of a race because of an achilles problem? ... the safe money would be on Mo. he held on pretty well going out fast at London

Wow, you truly don't have a clue about elite marathon racing, do you?
Rupp, beaten up in the final miles by veterans in big races???? You mean the bronze in the Olympics???? Wow, this site sure brings out the nut jobs.
Neither has impressed you in the marathon. I'll text Galen and Mo and let them know that they have to up their games since you're not impressed.
Obviously it depends on if Galen is healthy. I have not seen any NOP Facebook or twitter posts from them so not sure how it’s going.
A healthy Rupp definitely could beat Mo. It won’t be as exciting to watch the race if Galen decides to not run.

Very good points and I agree it wouldn't be nearly as exciting if Rupp didn't run. Hopefully the weather is fair in 2 weeks.

There's a 0% chance that both men start the race.
neither will finish in the top three
