terribly sad and pretty scary. can happen to anyone anywhere it seems these days
Why don't they ban knives?
These random crimes with zero discernible personal motive are the worst.
Stab that guy to death for wearing an ugly äss yellow shirt.
I'm sick of this s h i t. Innocent, harmless women being killed for no reason. He didn't go after a guy. He would have gotten his head smashed in.
I wouldn't put this past anyone where i live. I've never been harassed or threatened on a run until i moved to a large liberal metro area.
I don't understand why they think this was random. It might be, but what is the evidence? Seems to me like they know nothing about the motive of the attack, since they know nothing about the attacker.
Where were the cops. This is when you can shoot someone and be a hero. But no, it's easier to kill people in the safety of their own home, eyeroll.
Where is the outrage? BLM activists, where are you?

It'd be ideal if they could be every where they need to be, at the moment they are needed but I'm sure you're being facetious
the lesson is to carry some sort of protection yourself--taser or pepper spray or brass knuckles or whatever, and pray you have a chance to use them if the situation arrives and the presence of mind to. The latter is what stops me--fear I panic and fail
Saddest item I read in a story about this murder was from another female jogger in the neighborhood. She said where the murder happened was on what she considered her "safe" route. But this woman also said she always jogged carrying a knife. WTF?
Logan Circle used to be a lot worse than it is now, but make no mistake: like a number of neighborhoods in northwest DC, Logan Circle can be very dodgy, especially at night. Even in the nicest parts of DC you have a number of meth-heads walking around causing trouble.

Why didn't someone with a gun prevent this?
I haven't lived in DC for almost 20 years, but back then I always thought east of about 16th street was not too safe.

DC has really changed in the past 20 years. I've lived here nearly my whole life. I agree, 20 years ago, that area was very sketchy. Now? As a petite female runner, I wouldn't think twice about running there at 8 pm.
Honestly, I don't think she could have done anything to prevent this, except not be there. I can't imagine being quick enough to use pepper spray or something similar in a case like this. There were people all around - a running partner would not have prevented this.
Betcha if she had a gun she would've been ok.

I think you're trolling, but...
No...I don't think a gun would have helped. From what I understand, there was no warning, no chance to draw a gun and aim it. Unless your supposition is that she would be running with pistol in hand, finger on trigger?
