This should be easy. I'm sure everyone here knows someone who was committed to a mental institution prior to the 1950's.
Dude, that was funny. Outstanding post. So well done.

Since when is an industry making money considered a bad thing?
Perhaps the OP would feel more comfortable in a COMMUNIST heaven state.

Let's set aside the validity of the science of Psychiatry for a moment. How many billions of dollars per year are generated by the direct and ancillary services of psychiatrists? Tens of billions? 15% of the population is on mind-altering psychiatric drugs, do you think that's a good thing? Are you open to believing that a multibillion industry that is ostensibly designed to "help people" might become perverted by a profit motive?
Do you think that the people who choose to avail themselves of these services are worse at deciding what is best for them than you are at deciding what is best for them?
Okay, Tom Cruise.

I'm not sure I would go as far as they do with calling it evil, etc, but it is a basically a muiltibillion dollar money-making racket for pharma companies and "psychiastrists" that use psuedoscience to bill $150 / hour.
it's basically self-help broscience that masquerades as a real scientific field. It's completely nonsense at best, and and powerful money-making lobby/racket at worst
The same goes for all other pharma and AMA scams.
Settle down buddy. It's not like I criticized a religion...

Psychiatry and psychology are both scams.
The only real mental illnesses are the ones that include seeing things that arent there aka skitsophrenia, and the rapid cycling aka bipolar. 2 solutions.....
1. Mood stabilizing drug controls the ups and downs. The bad thing is that ruin your vision and your liver and make you constantly have cold sweats
2. The antipsychotic class of drugs slows down all thoughts, so delusions aren't as prevalent and constant. The bad thing is they cause derailment which makes you not complete your sentences and thoughts
I do not believe anxiety and depression is an actual mental illness unless you have had an acute psychotic break aka nervous breakdown. The. It's a temporary new mental illness. The real mental illnesses are life long
Considering most of the people who land in Psychiatry residencies did so because it was the last and only choice they had to accept a medical residency and become a full fledge licensed doctor goes to give you an idea behind the "science" of psychiatry. It is a byword among many medical resident applicants.
Match day:
"I matched surgery!" Wow, great!
"I matched anesthesiology!" Amazing!
"I matched internal medicine" Not bad mate!
"I matched psychiatry!" ...hmm, what happened? You had to take the NBME or USMLE steps more than once each?

Psychologists diagnose and treat mental health issues through the use of talk therapy and behavioral modification.
OP is a fvcking moron, as are half the posters in this thread who don't know the difference, but still feel qualified to offer their opinion.
Some psychologists can prescribe meds, IIRC.
Otherwise, solid post.
