Before you instinctively brush this off as a troll and talk s#*t on Mizzou, please hear me out. I already know that the current team will finish mid-pack in a weak conference. I know that they don't have a strong history in distance running and haven't even sniffed qualifying NCs since god knows when. I know that when the current coach hired in, he was the fourth coach in five years. But you know what, that sounds strikingly similar to Ole Miss of the early 2010s and I know I can't be the only one who sees the similarities. Burns is in his fifth year now, and although not much has improved on paper, the program is in a world of difference right now. Now that scholarships are freeing up from recruits of coaches past, Burns is utilizing the scholarship money and getting homegrown and international athletes that can make an impact on the national scale, similar to what Vanhoy did at Ole Miss. Most recent recruiting class has Kieran Wood (3:43/8:09), Martin Prodanov (1:51), and Victor Mugeche (Missouri state champ). Also, Burns is getting the attention of high level transfers (RS Fr. Dustan Davidson - 1:50/3:49) and I don't expect that to stop any time soon. The class of fifth years this year is the last recruiting class from the old coach meaning that more money will be freed up for impact performers, likely international recruits. But that's the same thing that Vanhoy did at Ole Miss. Of course something like this takes a few years to bear fruit, but I really think that this program will flourish just like Ole Miss has.
