I doubt that statement is true, and apparently it didn't help your reading comprehension.

shocked at how good the coverage at cphhalf.com. really innovative. which nbc would check it out. had mixed language announcers. real time progression against CR and WR.
I spoke with her in the hotel this morning. Besides for being a great athlete, she has a great personality. Many of us here in Copenhagen had a strong feeling that she would win after we heard her at the press conference.

Really!?! I'll have to go back & watch video of that presser. You'd think with 5 women in the field having broken 68:00, and with Melly having run a 65 low, Hassan would be lucky to even sniff the podium. Had she ever raced a 1/2 before? Had she done any 1/2 specific training? I should know this, but has she even raced a 10K before? Any road races at all before this one? She must have been talking big!
Hassan was quite fortunate to have melly and her pacemaker set a high pace and give a try at the record. Else i am not sure a 65 would be there.
Many of us in the room agreed that with her recent track performances and her easy going attitude that she could easily surprise the rest of the field and win.

Coming into the race, Hassan’s Nike Oregon Project coach Alberto Salazar had said he could see her “running between 69 and 70 minutes (in Copenhagen) although she has not been training specifically for a half marathon"..........................Not to beat a dead horse, but there was talk of the women's field going after the world record. Maybe prior to the race one could say, with her 800/1500 speed, that she could outkick in a tactical affair (69 - 70 minutes), but they almost set a 15K world record in route. And you say "many in the room" thought "that she could easily ...win"?!? Not giving you a hard time, but am incredulous.
70 minutes was setting a very low bar. I do not know about Hassan's training but certainly a world class 5000m runner will have plenty of mileage, including long runs and other workouts close to HM pace.
The Swiss Schlumpf and the German Krause both of which are mainly steeplechasers and more than one minute slower than Hassan over the 5k ran 70 and 72 min HMs, basically after winter training before the main season, in the last two years.
So while Hassan's 65 are extraordinarily strong and also that she beat the specialists, a time around 67 was certainly to be expected by such a strong 5k runner.

I especially, knowing D Katz for over 15 years and having run in about 100 races he has timed, would ever be distrustful of him. I am referring to him and "many in the room" believing that "she could easily....win" (based on her track times and her easy going attitude).
