This website cracks me up. Silver and bronze is not good enough? Who else can run sub-60 and 2:06 right now in the US? 26:44, was that them destroying Rupp?

The only legitimate argument is that he's doping and we don't know that for sure.

When Salazar said they were a little disappointed after the 10-miler, and that Rupp had a small issue with his achilles that had been somewhat bothering him, it seemed likely he was going to drop Copenhagen. You can say "Rupp Certified" or whatever, but it seems dumb to run another race at this point if you have any issues going on.

Totally agree. I just don't get the guy posting Salazar has destroyed Rupp. Their success has been amazing. Question whether it's legit or not, but you can't question how good they've been.

Anyone have any information on the real tragedy, that Erick Kiptanui will not be running? If true then the chance for a WR has been decimated.

That / \ but main reason is Mo Farah running 59'26" yesterday. Mo's results indicates he is in great shape. With Copenhagen race too close to Chicago race, Mo Farah will have had more recovery than Rupp and therefore have an advantage over Rupp, something Salazar will not entertain. That is why he cancelled Copenhagen to save Rupp for the Chicago race. One thing which Salazar needs to know is that though both Rupp and Mo are big names and starts Chicago as favorites, we have a very strong field, athletes who are equally good or better and are not intimidated by the two athletes above. From Bedan Karoki to Geoffrey Kirui(has beaten Rupp twice if you count 2018 Boston where Rupp DNfed) to Kenneth Kipkemoi to Paul Longanyata. But the dark horse in my opinion is debutant Augustine Choge who has been training mostly with Eliud Kipchoge and his group. He is one of my favorites athletes and I would love to see him win on his debut.

It's an injury and they're being cautious. Or maybe that other guy's right and it really has to do with not wanting to lay an egg when Mo just threw down a 59:24.

Rupp has had so few injuries. We knew it was coming. He has to go through some injuries. That’s normal. He might get go through a bad patch but he will come back stronger. Just in time 2020 olympics.

I think it’s time Salazar to re think Galen s training. He’s not super old but he’s not 25 anymore. He’s needs more recovery. Remember he was supposed to do Boston but ended up doing Prague. Prague was later than Boston. He had not enough recovery from Prague which was a very good race considering how Boston went down. Went pretty much right back to marathon training.

Anyhow Rupp is not done. He’s saving himself for Chicago. Who knows maybe that injury is not that bad. :)

It seems he's injured but i've not found further details. Without Galen and Kiptanui the race loses all his epic premise.

FYI, just heard back from Rupp/Hasay's agent Ricky Simms. Here's what he had to say:

"Galen has some soreness in his Achilles in Tilburg and decided it was better to return home to the US and continue training rather than stay in Europe (he had originally planned to stay in Europe between Tilburg and Copenhagen). Jordan was going to join him in Europe but will just run a hard effort in training at home instead."

Lagat has a much better resume and their head to head tally isn’t even remotely close.

Nike stock has dropped down on it's knees hard over the last week so they probably can't take the risk of hurting Galen's NOP white posterboy image too by risking him finishing outside top 10 right now, which is a real risk in the Copenhagen field as it still stands.

I'm sure they've contracted enough of the other top guys to be able to claim Vaporfly success from at least a bunch op PBs instead, with the possibility of having the winner and/or a WR on top of that minimum.

You mean A-sample Lagat? His resume may be better only if his times for running for Kenya are included.

As a distance runner, it's not even close from 5000 to marathon. Rupp trounces the Kenyan-American.

head to head? You mean 30 year old Lagat was beating 19 year old Rupp. Wow. That's stupendous!

Where is Lagat challenging Rupp now...when Rupp is in his prime?
