You're in the history books with the WR.
And you're not in the history books with the Olympic Gold?
Gelindo Bordin- Olympic Gold, no WR
Belenyi (sp?) Densimo (I think) WR no Olympic or WC medals.

This is true^^^. Herb did run that time!
Not true. Everyone knew that course was way short. Lindsay ran many 10 milers and his best was a full minute slower. Additionally he's never showed in any race that he was anywhere near sub 46 talent.
Meyer ran a 27:53 10k a few weeks after his 46:13, then ran his 2:08:59 s few weeks after that 10k. Thsee are more reasonable indications of what his 10 mile is worth.
I respect you like there's no tomorrow George, but Herb would surely disagree with you on that one and has said so in an interview.
Herb was not a 10,000 specialist on the track, yet he beat Greg quite handily more than once over 10 miles and the Crim is not a fast course (unless you're Kip L.).
In addition, the weather at the Crim in late August can be quite oppressive, unlike the more favorable cooler weather of the Cherry Blossom in late March in D.C.
The Trevira Twosome course in New York was run in late April of 1980, again, decent weather (unlike the Crim).
Herb soundly beat Lasse Viren and a host of other extremely talented runners over a hilly 15k on a windy day in Far Hills, New Jersey in May of that year. Viren had a 10,000 best of 27:38.
Sorry, I believe he was capable of a 46 flat 10 mile on the right day in the right conditions.
Now if you know as a fact that it was measured and found to be short, then yes, you're right. I've honestly never "officially" heard that from anyone.
Thanks George, I'm just pointing out the other side of the coin;)
https://more.arrs.run/race/12923http://www.alltime-athletics.com/m10milesroad.htmIf you set a world record, you've run faster than anyone ever has, EVER, over that distance.
If you win the Olympics, you won on THAT day, it doesn't make you the best at that distance, just on THAT one day.
But...opinions will vary, just like chocolate:)

Puhlease.
Lindsay was nowhere near capable of running 46:00. Not one race in his career indicated that. In fact, every race in his career --5k, 8k, 10k, 12k, 15k, 20k HM -- points to 47:00, which is what he did. Lindsay ran many 10 milers and won many of them, but his best was 47:02, an AR at the time. No need to embellish upon his already excellent career.
Here is your official US record progression.

Disagree. Olympic gold will always be Olympic gold. Once you’re three names down on the WR list though, nobody remembers.
Not true. World records are harder to come by. A world record is not set every 4 years on average, hardly.
Most have no clue who won the Atlanta O.M. and it was in the States!
And you KNOW that most have no clue about this, because you have data, or you just think so? Source?

Oh stop it.
Records are made to be broken.
Olympic golds are a sign of your talent, and your competitive ability.
Its a no brainer.

No, it's just one day every 4 years.
Records are rarely broken compared to the Olympics being held every 4 years.
5000 world record has been broken once in the last 20 years, and that was 14 years ago.
10,000 world record has been broken twice in the last 20 years, and the last time was over 13 years ago.
1 mile world record has been broken once in the last 25 years, and the last time was 19 years ago.
3000 meter steeple chase has been broken twice in the last 21 years, with the last time being 14 years ago, today!!!!!
Yeah, it's a no brainer alright and yes, stop it as you're desperate attempt to sound smart has fallen short again.
Wow, I guess one man's opinion will never have the slightest affect on your opinion. Oh well, carry on mate!

Yeah, but drug testing...

Yeah, but that means the records could have lasted even longer if you're implying that drugs are why they were broken at all.
Holding the fastest time in the entire world at any event is huge. Winning the Olympics is ONCE every 4 years. Anything can happen on any given day and a gold medal is great, but it doesn't necessarily make you the BEST at that event. Runners can have pop after pop at going after records and if they're on one day and the stars align, they might get it. Making the trials is hard enough as that one day might be your off day.
Young-Cho won in Barcelona. Was he the best that year? Nope, but he won on that day. How many runners actually remember that he won in Barcelona? Exactly. A gold medal is great and you'll have it forever, but it's one day every 4 years.

Exactamundo. To put things in perspective Rupp just ran nearly a minute-and-a-half slower than Ritz once did in practice.
who's career would you rather have though?

We're not talking about the game. We're talking about practice!

Nobody knows how accurate Dathan's 10 mile run really was. Sorry.

Which races in your career point to a 61:43 HM, which you did run?

Ritzenhein is a tough cookie when he's on, but no way did he do that during practice.

ARs at 3000m sc, 12k, Near misses ARs in 3000sc, 15k and 10 mile. Feel stupid yet?
Nice result and I am very pleased with the shoulder shrug to aw shucks ratio ~= 1.6 during the interview. Now on to Copenhagen, where 59 low is not looking too crazy.

I suppose so. I had thought you were better than Lindsay. Looking at times, it appears I was wrong.
