If history repeats itself, then JW will win UTMB in 2020 and set the course record.

UMTB is not like Western States. Too much competition and s*** that could go wrong and mess with his head. Anything goes wrong and he's out the back door. He's a mental weakling.
Actually the lithuanian Alexandr Sorokin did, last year, run few minutes faster than Jureks best time. But he certainly isn't a nobody. Also I agree that it shows a great level of ignorance talking about Spartathlon not being competitive. Would be interesting seeing some of the more hyped US runners of today go for Spartathlon. It seems that there isn't much interest for races longer than the ~100 miles. Like the great divide between time based racing and distance events?

Jurek had his pacer mule for him at Western States. Ask his pacer what he thinks of jerk-off. Badwater and Spartathlon are not competitive races.
You don't know what you are talking about. Spartathlon is one of the most competitive ultras there are. Just to finish you have to run 153 miles within 36 hours. That's 4.25 mph!

Major props to Jurek for making the sport something people can do professionally (and winning any 100 miler seven times is amazing), but if he were running now, he’d be more competitive with the top females rather than males. A whole different level of runner has taken to ultrarunning in the U.S. no disrespect, just fact. It’s the same evolution in every sport.
Jurek's best time of 15:36 from 2004 would have won in 2016 and 2017. Jurek in his prime would still be a podium threat in the current WS100 competitive climate.
You shouldn´t bother with silly little things like "facts" on LRC.

According to his interview he was running 140 miles a week with 50,000 feet of vertical leading up to this race. And he wonders why he didn’t have a whole lot of pop in his legs?
Perhaps he had spent too much time on LRC - the place where more always is better.

Hopefully he comes back next year and 3rd time will be a charm.
Jim needs to change by training smarter. (He won't)
Otherwise he's doomed to repeat the same pattern. World Record training runs and piss poor races.
You guys are forgetting that walmsey broke the course record at ws this year and now have the nerve to call him out. You are a bunch of pathetic dbags.

Of the 39 top men previewed on irunfar, 25 dropped. That’s 64%. Overall there was “only” a 32% drop rate. Are all 25 of the top guys who dropped mental weaklings too? Or if it’s just Jim who is, why aren’t the other 24 mental weaklings also? I’m summary, you are an idiot who dislikes Jim. I’m sure you say stupid stuff no matter what you talk about, but this time it’s just you being stupid and how you dislike Jim.
Yes, we will call him out. He's 1 for 7 in major competition. He beat the record of a guy who's a former drug addict. Western States is not as competitive as people believe. Scott Jurek was a 2:38 marathoner.

The fact that many others failed does'nt detract from the fun of his failure.
He and his coconino friends all go home devastated.
Scott Jurek is what LR bros call a beta male, ie he has a brain and use it unlike the 64% "top guys" governed by their testosterone.

What a stupid argument. Dick Beardsley only ran 31:05 for 10k.
I think Jurker only ran one marathon. If he focused on the event he could’ve probably improved that time, just like Beardsley and the 10K, based on how their fitness developed when they started focusing on longer distances.
It's the same two or three guys, saying the same things (1 for 6, 1 for 7, etc) that don't make sense over and over. It's a personality defect of the those guys to go on and on and basically troll a single person at every opportunity for years. I don't really care except it's annoying for the rest of us.
At least these runners have enough status to attract trolls! Sounds like they're doing alright ;)

You need to change your nickname, to Mr. Stupid.

Exactly. Just look at his record from the past 2+ years. All the piss poor races of the loser:
2018
1st Carrera Alto Sil Gran Premio X (4:35:39)
1st/CourseRecord (CR) - Lake Sonoma 50 (5:51:16)
1st - Beat The Heat 10k (31:31)
1st/CR - Western States 100 (14:30:04)
DNF - UTMB (Chamonix, France)
2017
1st/CR Tarawera 102k (7:23:32)
1st/CR Costa Trail Gijón (1:25:43)
1st/CR Carrero Alto Sil (2:37:57)
1st/CR Gorge Waterfalls 100k (8:20:28)
DNF Western States 100
1st/CR Kendall Mountain Run (1:31:05)
1st/CR Speedgoat 50k (5:04:55)
5th UTMB (20:11:38)
1st/Tie Stagecoach 55k (4:17:00)
DNF Diagonale des Fous
2016
1st/CR Bandera 100k (7:46:37)
1st Moab Red Hot 55k (3:49:20)
1st/CR Mesquite Canyon 55k (4:11:09)
1st/CR Lake Sonoma 50 Mile (6:00:52)
1st/CR Don't Fence Me In 30k (2:08:19)
20th Western States 100 (18:45:36)
1st Bridger Ridge Run 20 Mile (3:14:03)
FKT Grand Canyon R2R2R (5:55:20)
1st/CR Franklin Mountain 50k (4:34:07)
1st/CR Stagecoach 55k (3:30:44)
1st/CR JFK 50 Mile (5:21:28)
We now that Jim Walmsley is a very good runner up to 50 miles and he won Western States 100 with a course record. And yes he won a lot of low key races.
But we also know that he did not finish a few 100 milers.
Jim is the best runner on Strava but at the end it does not matter. Getting to the finish line does. And Walmsley is not really good at that when it comes to 100 milers.
If I were a pro, I wouldn't have my training on Strava.
If I played pro poker, I'd wear sunglasses.
Note to self: Kilian Jornet (ESP) has not won UTMB since 2011.
7 years since he won UTMB.
Can't figure it out as a pro.
It's a tough race.
