Planting potatoes? Afraid?
I have no idea what that article says, but I know we’ve had one of the most notorious threads of the year over a Kenyan athlete’s decision to skip a lukewarm meet in Norway opting not to run a distance only cared for by people in two or three countries.
Here's the Google translation of the headline:
"Jakob Ingebrigtsen is terribly tired of losing the Diamond League finals
Jakob Ingebrigtsen woke up on Wednesday with throat inflammation and must stand over the Diamond League finals in Zurich." The "terribly tired of losing" is a gem.

What??? A 17 year old kid suddenly world famous, pulling out of a race with a throat infection after a long and remarkable season is the same as Tim missing one of the biggest nights to plant potatoes and pull tyres (about two weeks after Kioeop's bust)??
You really are an insane racist.
Article goes on to say Jakob may still run at Ostrava on Sept. 8.
Brother Filip is running the DL 1500m final.
Also that Filip has completed some crazy training sessions under the watchful eye of Gjert with Jakob. And is recovered from his rib injury suffered in the fall at Euros.
So maybe he will dip under 3:30?

Jakob is about as world famous as these messageboards (i.e. not very).

He's on his way. Pretty sure just about every casual track fan in the world knows about him now. If he's not world famous, that only shows how much East African doping/domination has killed the sport over the last 3 decades. Hopefully clean stars like him with global appeal lcan change that.
He's certainly a superstar in his home country, which must be challenging for a 17 year old.
I did not know he was even qualified for the DL final? He was not included in the first lists published (due to too few DL appearances and points earned). Maybe a late (under the hand) entry because a lot of people would have liked to see him compete? However, if he has some kind of infection or just feels like his shape is declining at the end of a long season, he has the same right to skip this meet like every other athlete. Diamond league is good to earn some money, but honestly, (almost) everyone knows who is the current olympic champion for several different distances at least, but no one can say for sure, who was winner in a diamond league final in 2016. So medals in international championships count, maybe world records, but all the other stuff is just for the spectators present (if in the stadium or in front of television), but forgotten a few days later.

He was on the start list yesterday.

If Oslo is one of the biggest nights (it's not really) then surely skipping the DL final is even more suspicious?
Hint: neither are suspicious. The potatoes thing was a stupid topic before and this Jakob thing is stupid now. You were already proved very wrong by claiming there would be no runs under 3:30 this year and Cheryiout was clearly getting the training in and saving himself for Monaco. Move on.
If you are acting as if you wouldn't make a big deal out of Tim or Elijah skipping Zurich because they were "sick", then you are even more intellectually dishonest than I thought.

Maybe not World famous, but I asked some Norwegians a year ago if I knew who the Ingebrigtsens were and they did. I'm sure they're pretty well known across Norway now, and if Jakob keeps progressing at the rate he has he could be the closest thing distance running gets to Usain Bolt. There were articles on major news outlets like ESPN on Jakob after his Euro double.

The closest thing distance running has Usain Bolt is actually publicity shy, soft spoken Eliud Kipchoge. A one-off event centred around him in Monza that spawned a documentary on National Geographic that was watched by people who don’t care for running.

He's a great runner, best marathon runner ever, but to compare the star power of a non-charismatic guy who runs two races a year and no world records to his name to the star power of Bolt is asinine. Marathon specialists will never be "mainstream" attractions like sprinters, and while that's unlikely to be the case for 1500-5000m runners as well, if Jakob starts breaking records left and right he could very well bring a larger general audience to the sport. Mo Farah is the closest anyone has come to Bolt as a distance runner (despite no WRs) due to his titles, nationality, and charisma. To insinuate Kipchoge has any sort of the "star" pull of Farah for the general public is ridiculous, regardless of whether he's a more accomplished runner.
How many times have I posted in this thread?
BTW I've got the diagnostic skills of Mika Brzezinski.
Kipchoge has an aura that all of the guys you mentioned lack. Visiting the Kaptagat camp has become something of a pilgrimage for amateur runners from all over the world. Not even Bolt or Farah inspire that kind of behaviour. At least people drop by St Patrick’s because of Bro Colm’s and David Rudisha. And to call him “non-charismatic” because he doesn’t dance or whoop at the finish line is to not know the meaning of the of the word.

The shame is WvN was on the way up. But seriously if Jakob improves by just 1% he's going to be tough to beat. If he grows by just one more inch, that'd probably do it. A white kid beating all the Kenyans and Ethiopians will sell a lot of shoes. Nike has spent tens of millions on Rupp.
Farah is clearly the biggest star in distance running. Only people who dislike him on this forum try to pretend nobody knows him. Like him or not, Farah is plastered on Nike billboards all over the world. He's huge.
I remember when he ran the 1500 at Monaco in 3:28, papers reported that he came 4th as if it were a shocking defeat. When he ran the London marathon the first time the bookies had favourable odds for him to win.
People who don't know about running think he is the best runner over 400m period. Simply because of his fame and achievements.
Jakob can definitely be popular but he had to win. People don't care about the guy coming third or fourth at the World Champs or Olympics. Even if he's white. Jakob needs to absolutely clean up and then maybe he could achieve world wide fame. Remember Bolt and Farah repeatedly did the double at major champs, and went long periods never losing a race. That's very different to the Euros, something which nobody here cared about before.
