Here's an idea; find another sport, like golf or bowling. Seriously, it is over for you as a runner if you are quitting because you got a little fatigued. Now it will be easier to quit every time you run a race....and you will quit many more times in the future if that is your approach.
If you decide to stick with it, you better sack up and grow a pair (figuratively speaking, of course, because I don't know if you're a gal or just a very feminine dude).
In almost 40 years of running, I have dropped out of one race. Ran off the track during a 5K in college, barfed, then passed out. Found out the next day I had mono. There have been times since then when I've endured the shame of walking during a race, but I've never quit (oh, sorry, "dropped out").
