If NYC really wanted Americans and wanted them to win, they would stop bringing in so many East Africans, but that will never happen nor do I agree with it, especially when there's a 500k cash prize on the line that everyone should have a somewhat equal shot at getting. The Robertson should be able to have their entry and travels paid for, an appearance fee probably not much if anything.
The only problem is, doping in Kenya (and other E/N African countries) has been so rampant, but the average viewer who doesn't run or hobby jogger that doesn't read up on running, but will be watching the NYC marathon doesn't know that. All they think is "E Africans are just genetically gifted and train hard so they usually win road races". Appearance to viewers is a lot of what NYRR cares about, no matter how much they say they're against doping because at the end of the day, they still need money. They're not going to give someone like the Robertsons who aren't E African or American a chance, because not only do they not a super good shot at winning, but even if they mess around and do, it won't get the same amount of hype compared to G Kamworor or Shalane Flanagan.
