Immigrants in general have lower incidents of crime than citizens. This tragedy is a rare instance since the majority of female homicide victims are killed by someone familiar to them and because immigrants are less likely to commit a crime than non-immigrants.
The rareness of this tragedy doesn’t minimize the immeasurable grief involved. But I don’t know what change in policy would be useful here, other than encouraging people to carry some self-defense device with them.
This murderer isn’t a normal person. Normal people don’t stalk and murder strangers in broad daylight. Whether he had been born here or gone through the legal system to arrive here, he was going to commit murder because something isn’t right with him. If you have a solution to preemptively remove potentially violent people like that from society, I’d like to hear it and know how we can also apply it to the Christopher Watts and Scott Peterson types, because they’re more common.
