#37 on the list...
Jessica Chichester, USA 2:46:52
actually ran 2:45:23 at Boston to finish 5th (from the first wave)
1. What is she posing at? She runs with BTC and has put up decent performances at some big races. If she was a poser she would post on IG and FB but always pull out hurt when big races came up or duck the media. 2. I wouldn't consider saying she wants gold as disrespecting. I'd save disrespecting for dopers and cheaters but if you feel that way ok. 3. (a) She's already lost to African runners. (b) What's to know? They run faster than Americans marathoners? 4. Every runner is a marketing toy for every brand they sponsor. I pity you. The fact you could hate a woman for stating her goals publicly and trying make good by her sponsors is sad. I think you should look at yourself in the mirror and ask where you went wrong in your life.

Why do you hate Gwen so much?
Because she is a poser, and disrespected the foundation of our sport with here delusional words of going for gold in less than 2 years of Marathon experience. She has no knowledge of african runners, their abilities and accomplishments, and is a marketing toy for the evil empire we know as Nike.
She is not worth mentioning, because she has not accomplished anything in the world of RUNNING.
Look at myself in the mirror? Why, because my opinion does not come off a conveyor belt, and is like everyone else's?
This is a running site, where we talk about our running and the running of pro athletes.
I feel her training is a fraud, where she is trying to cram 8 years worth of training into 2 years. Running does not work that way. There are short gains in a long amount of time, and like Desi said, anyone who short changes that is not really serious about becoming a great runner. So her approach is comical in itself.
Her races have been crap, and wouldn't even qualify her for the championship level. It takes runners a huge 12 month marathon block to really be ready to race at a high, high level. She hasn't even take on heavy, heavy volume yet, and it shows.
Her frame is thin and weak, where she does not have a runner's build.
Women's running is at a high level across the board, SANS GWEN. So Her struggle story is not needed, especially when there are women who are doing outstanding things in running at the moment. USA women have been on fire, and that is where the focus should be. It should not be on a triathlete with a lame attempt at distance running
Everyone in here is talking about the great female runners in the world, but you come in and send the thread the other way, by asking about an athlete who will never, ever factor in a high quality women's race.
No one is thinking about Gwen in any of the upcoming Marathon races. People are focused on real, elite runners, and so should you.

I think it's probably more ignorance than disrespect, but can't say for sure. How much mileage has she really gotten out of it from Nike? I'm sure that Nike surely realizes that she's not a serious challenger for the gold, so I don't think they are going to play along with that concept.

I think anyone who can win Olympic gold in an endurance sport should be taken seriously. Surely she doesn't have as many 120 mile weeks as Shalane, but to say she's clueless and has no idea of what to expect is a bit ridiculous. While Keitany and Amy Cragg were running big weeks over the last decade, Gwen was doing 20~30hrs of aerobic training in the pool, on the bike and on foot. That has to count.
Gwen ran what, 2:41 at NYC a couple years ago, a few months after Rio Olympics? To think she can't knock ten minutes off that would be a big underestimation. 2:30ish and you're in the hunt in some of the women's races.
I was surprised to see that response from the owner as well. I can imagine people like Tatyana would be deeply disappointed in such a statement. I distinctly remember her stating somewhere that she considers what she does running. I think the exposure is great, and the para fields should continue to be listed with the non-adaptive runners, instead of being an afterthought. I am so sorry that you had to come across this post. Hopefully the site owners see your post and it is a learning moment for them.
I do not see Shalane being a nonfactor simply because she is on the latter side of her career. She just paced Shelby Houlihan to the AR for the 5000m, and has referenced in several places how she has done some speed workouts as of late that resulted in the fastest running she has done in years. To have that speed still could result in a fast marathon for her. Will be fun to see what all of these American entries accomplish.

Are you f$%^ing nuts? From the CO-OWNER of the site.
Everyday my son wakes up and see's me log onto this site. He's handicap and goes to Shriners just likeTatyana Mcfadden did?
He would love to be able to run like able bodied athletes.
Every f$%king day is an inspiration in my book.
Sad Rojo.
Jesus, Rojo. Do you even think before you type? Do you really think you are qualified to be an authority on what should be allowed in here?
People like Tatyana are an inspiration. More people probably know her name than 80% of the elite field. T&F just isn't that popular. We are a small group of enthusiasts. The general public love to hear about the wheelchair fields because most among us have souls.
You do not, and I repeat do not, have to tear one group down to try to raise up the one you care more about. There could have been a much more sensible way to go about this if you really wanted to construct this argument. I.E. "Professional runners and wheel chair athletes are both amazing. etc. we should have longer press releases to give each group their time in the spotlight. xyz. Instead, you act like this. With no sense.
Please, please, please, get some disability training after your courses on race and gender.
Sally Kipyego is my pick for top American along with Molly. She is flying under the radar coming back from pregnancy but no one should overlook her talent.

I give Shalane an outside shot, but she is in the twilight of her career, so I don't see her being a factor. .
I don't think this is a logical thought. Assuming she is in the twilight of her career, therefore she won't do well. What defines twilight? A NYC Marathon win? Just because she is older than some of the other competitors? Tell that to Kipchoge or Lagat.
Yea, rojo is starting to sound like he is senile with many of these recent posts and threads.
Yea, the time you spend posting about how you don't like Gwen Jorgensen probably would be better spent working on yourself or something more productive. Good lord.
Being Czech, I would like to point out Eva Vrabcova who was 7th at the NY marathon 5 seconds from the 4th place at 2:29:41 last year, her PB at the time. She ran 2:26:31 and got a bronze medal at the European championship this year. I think (and hope) that she has a shot at the podium in New York this year.

Btw, there is a parallel between Eva Vrabcova and Gwen Jorgensen. Eva was a cross country skier. She was 8th in the cross-country skiing World Cup in 2014-15, her best season when she decided to switch to running. She is now a better runner than she was a skier. In contrast to Gwen, she was not at the very top of her sport but she was an elite skier.
I would like to see a runner from a smaller country that likely supports herself and probably doesn't get much praise/publicity for her achievements do well, but unfortunately I don't think we'll see her break through here. I assume she peaked for Euros, and bouncing back for NYC so soon would be a tough ask.
My outside pick for an African unknown to sneak on the podium is Lisa Weightman (AUS). I think she came top 5 in both London and Chicago last year, arguably the two best women's marathons of the year. She also took silver at Comm Games this year.
The time lis is meaningless.
1. Eliminate times run in 2011 Boston or 2017 CIM because those athletes were aided by the weather. Both of those courses have a huge AIDED next to all results. For example Desi runs 2 marathons a year and has never broken 2:25 on any other legitimate course.
I believe that Groner, Dimoff, Bluske, and Goodman all ran their times on CIM last year. Take a look at their next best PBs for a reality check.
2. Any PB that is over 3 years old is meaningless. This is a tactic used by races. I laughed last year when I read the Boston entries and they listed Deena Kastor 2:19. Really?
Show us PBs run in the last 3 years on courses that are record eligible if you really want an idea of what this field really looks like.
Why can't America come up with a FAST marathon like Berlin, Dubai or even London? Do they think serious fans care about who wins in 2:12?
I know some who care think they're serious running fans, but we ALL know the day someone like Kipchoge runs New York or Boston is the day he is past his peak and cashing in. New York is a big step DOWN for Keitany and probably a sign that she has given up on the WR. Face it, they're second tier races! They need to change their courses and become competitive.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
