Is our sport way more out of it than I think.? I had a garage sale today and my dad is here and the Birmingham replay is on. During intros of 100m that's what my dad just said.
I tried to explain these are the next bolts and he said he doesn't see bolt out there.
My dad during 100m in Birmingham: 'Who are these runners? I've never heard of them. Are they professional?'

Anything cool at the garage sale?
-
There's been a real c hanging of the guard in the sprints, even since the 2017 Worlds. If you'd turned away for not too long a time, you'd think of these people as strangers.

Hi Wejo!
Why don't you ban Coevett, who brags about beating up an innocent black man (making sure to say he was a black man, not just a man), who threatens people with violence (he said he would make someone eat their own intestines - yeah, do the LRC search thing with Coevett + intestines), and who insults anyone who disagrees with him?
Thank you.
As for the topic, did your dad use to follow T&F (other than his sons' careers, of course)?
Maybe it's the excess of information out there, people don't focus as they used to, because there are too many things available to them going on.
Great athletes used to be known all over the world but now? I did the test and asked my three training mates if they had ever heard of Mo, Usain and Eliud. Yes, of course!
I asked them about Christian Coleman, Christian Taylor and Barshim. Nothing... -
Your father is getting old

I've been a runner all my life, and don't know who they are either.
Sprints are quite boring. They take forever to start, are done a few seconds later
and then strutting around. For what???? Good grief. At least run a lap of the track. -
If you follow the sprints (any sport) you know who is doing what early on in their career. You watch them at the HS/college level then they simply fade away or evolve into what we see on TV or at the big meets.
Christian Coleman was a speedy football player in HS. Noah Lyles was running 45 4x4legs as a Virginia HS kid. And so it goes. -

It's when you know what is really going on that sprinting becomes the most exciting events in track.
Go to any big track meet that has the HS 4x1, watch the fan reaction. Then once the 5000 starts it's bathroom, get a snack time. -

Ask him the third string whatever for his favorite pro team, and I bet he will know that. -

All the bogus circus, gymnastic events and stupid fans are why I don't go to track meets. -
12 years ago did your Dad have a clue?
-
If he watched that race then at least he will have a good feel for the World Championship 100m final next year.
-
I doubt you were missed.

A few stars but this as a whole is a b-meet. They attempt to showcase the UK athletes which is fine but add some fillers (to your dads point) to build out the field. -
I am a runner for the most part of my life. I wouldn't have a clue who is good in 100 meters in the moment.
Same is true for all track distances and even for Marathon runners. -
I wish my Dad would hang out with me, but he’s in Uganda.

I doubt it either, since I'm not an imbecile. -

When someone reads this in ten years they will have no clue to the reference.
