I've 5 weeks left to an important half marathon where I want to break 1:16. Unfortunately I can't change date and I can't run a later half due to issues that I won't go into. I also understand that there are no shortcuts in training but the situation is as it is so please don't post things like "choose another race", "don't race" etc. I will appreciate a genuine help how to structure remaining weeks to be in the best shape possible.
Background info - male, 33, been running 50-60 mpw constantly this entire year with few weeks around 70-80 mpw earlier this spring. Last couple of months have been struggle with health issues (not related to running) but I still averaged around 60 miles most of the weeks. I usually do 2 workouts (repetitions and threshold intervals) + a faster long run of 12-15 miles each week. In spring ir PRed my 10k - 34:5x but this was before health issues took toll on me. At this point I could probably be able to break 36:00 but not much faster.
I've 2 previous weeks of 70 mpw in the bag with 2 workouts each week (8k moderate tempo and 8x1000 avg 3:30 w/ 90 sec rest). I felt that these two weeks were a bit too hard (not mileage wise but workout wise).
I am now thinking that maybe I should back off from workouts and do 2.5-3 weeks pure mileage with some hills and maybe easy tempo here and there and than hammer one week hard after which taper for say 10 days. Any ideas?
