You kids should have seen the '87 10 000 in Rome. Only the winner knew he was done. Everyone else including the officials were just guessing.
The placed runners kicked twice.
It’s harder to count to 25 than it is to count to 12.5.

That bell which they ring in Berlin is TINY. I noticed it the other night watching replays from a German feed and you could barely hear it. Same on this video. Might have been a bit of a factor but still no excuse for losing count. McColgan sure as hell exploited the situation as she quickly and aggressively passed the shattered Salpeter.

I get that lap counting can be hard... but how does this happen? There’s a bell on the final lap.
I wonder if the BBC announcers were right when they said Saltpeter got fooled when Hassan took off. Hassan was going so fast Saltpeter assumed she was kicking for home. Little did she know that Hassan was just getting started.
Having won the 10000 earlier in the week probably didn't help.
Hassan after the race:
"My plan was to go in front on the last 800m for the final sprint. I did what my coach told me. On the last lap I saw Salpeter, I thought she wanted to do a larger sprint, I thought that she wanted to pick up the race. And when she stopped, I went "I am right! What is she doing? What should I do?" I heard the people shout. It was crazy. And then I realized that I was right and continued my race for the final lap."
McColghan:
"When I saw Sifan Hassan and the Israeli athlete going for it in the home straiught when there was still one lap to go, I was really confused. In fact, I was really annoyed at myself because I thought I had timed it wrong. I was really tempted to stop..."

I'll never understand runners who miscount laps, even though good runners do it. Seriously, WTF are you thinking?
I almost stole some points in a close dual meet 3200 because the lap counters were off and the good runners on the other team didn't catch on until I was outkicking them.
My daughter was leading our SCHOOLS XC race this year and went off course. I'm like how the eff do you get lost on your own course? The course you've run every year since 7th grade? Fortunately, she still had time to correct and finish in 1st.
Sick brag about having a fast daughter.
lol
Watched the vid.
My favorite part is how Salpeter's "finishing" kick was still slower than Hassan's "450 meters to go" running pace.
LOVED seeing Salpeter get destroyed. The DQ just makes this all the more worthwhile. Sweet, sweet karma.
Why the hell was she DQd? I didn't see anything bad. I read for "Stepping over her lane". When did that happen?
The time would have been an Israeli record.
"The gap, however, proved too large to close and she finished in fourth place, in a time of 15:01. Despite her catastrophic pause, the time was a new Israeli record."

Yep. In fact, I'd say that pretty much defines humblebrag: My daughter's so fast, she farther than anyone else and still won.
Wasn’t there a clock on the home stretch? Did they seriously think they were finishing in 13:30? Like, world record...

According to the article from RTE (Irish radio/tv) on the previous page, she was "disqualified after footage showed that she briefly ran inside the cone at the start of the race."

DQ'd in a 10k! They must have used the British officials from the World Indoors.

Not that it matters, but she won the 10,000. She was DQ'd in the 5000.
Runners don’t count laps in a 5k and above, they know how much is left according to the time running on the clock. Try to run 12.5 or 25 laps without a watch or any time, and you’ll find yourself after about 10-15 minuets of running thinking is that the 9th or the 8th lap???
They count on the clock and on the bell.
Salpeter got confused because of Siffan sudden change of pace thinking she’s sprinting in the home straight for the finish
Given the fact Israel is allowed to compete in the Euro champs despite not being in Europe and all the international laws that they are allowed to ignore without consequence (Iran gets sanctioned for being accused of having a non declared nukes program while allowing inspections and not actually having one and Iraq gets attacked for having non-existent WMDs while Israel has an undeclared, un-inspected nukes program built with material purloined from the NUMEC Plant in PA and yet still gets a massive American aid package in contravention of our own laws), it is surprising that an Israeli runner is actually required to run all the laps.

This woman can't count laps, and thinks that Kenya and Israel are in Europe, apparently.
What a chump. I can't stop lolling.
Finding joy in the failings of others? Really? Strong feeling that you're not a nice person.

Just reaffirmed my initial reaction of the type of individual that you are. Gross.
