A little info:
17 yr old senior
Prs: 17:49, 10:48, 4:52, 2:17
So I've been doing some good mileage this summer and since I've always had TERRIBLE form (head bobbing, ankle rolls out, arms out of control, etc), I was looking at how to improve form or at least be more efficient.
Last summer, I discovered cadence and tried to improve mine a little, but you know... season started and I was focused on times, not my form.
Now that I'm gonna be a senior anyway I've been trying to get my cadence up. For reference, I have averaged about 158-162 on runs in the past, BUT the past 2 days I've been focusing on moving feet faster and have been hitting about 165. It is still very slow, I know. I have to say though, 7:30 pace has my heart rate at 140 when at higher cadence, vs 8:20 pace at 150 for lower cadence.
ANYWAY, here is my question. I seriously don't get cadence. How can I run at the ideal cadence (180) at all paces. Isn't increased cadence what makes you run faster? When im doing slow runs, shouldnt my cadence be lower than when I'm running an 800? My tempos are usually at about 165 cadence, slow runs at 160. My 800 though is at like 185 cadence....
Doesn't it just depend on fast moving? What is the best cadence for practice? And do I try to improve it by not lifting my feet high, but rather forward?
Sorry for all the quetions, but I'm trying to increase cadence and it makes no sense to me.
