What's with California and 200 and or 400 sprinters?
And he could be the best of them all before he hangs up the spikes.

This is great news, but can someone explain to me why this would surprise anyone?
Without any info this isn't really news, just about everyone in track and field is Nike sponsored... and clearly they've always been the company hes leaned towards.
Do we have any info regarding his contract? Am i wrong to think the years and general figure range should be available at the very least?
My uneducated guess would be a 7-figure, 8 year deal. maybe 3-4 million.

That's a lot of money. How much cash in hand and how much of the 3-4 mil is potential bonus/performance awards?
What is your uneducated guess based on? Do you know what other long sprinters are making with Nike? Is 8 years a norm?
Thanks
Word is signed through end of 2024 - 6 year deal, $5M total without performance incentives, so a little over $800k/year base.

“Uneducated” meaning I have never seen a pro contract firsthand but have heard multiple rumors over the past few years about young stars on the messageboards.
Noah Lyles, Drew Hunter, and Ed Cheserek were all rumored to have been offered contract in the mid to low 7- figure range. Lyles and Hunter were offered 10 year deals while Ches I believe was 8. This was all just base and like I said... rumored.
Knowing Bromell and DeGrasse we’re both offered high 7 figure deals a few years back( DeGrasse was confirmed at 11 million, Bromell was rumored at 8 mill), my initial guess was that Norman would get around 7-8 mill over 8 years, but that sounded insane, so I pulled back.
Bonuses aren’t worth my mind right now, the base and the length are the biggest things I need clarified right now.

Thanks for your definition of uneducated. With your wide exposure to what has been rumored and having the knowledge the DeGrasse contract has been confirmed at 11 million the colloquialism I'm familiar with being used in that circumstance is "educated guess" . No disrespect was meant.
That said-- That is a lot of money. No wonder the 46 second guy does not get a contract offer.
Woah, Drew Hunter has a 10-year, 7-figure deal with Nike? Seriously? Lyles I could believe, but Hunter?
Maybe you mean 7 figures over 10 years (aka 100k/yr)? Still a lot for Hunter, I would think...

Drew Hunter is not with Nike. He is signed to Adidas, and he is only 20 years old. His parents coached Alan Webb when he was in high school, and they were both top quality runners, so they are highly reputable in the running world.
Drew Hunter is worth his contract due to his age, and he has some solid talent.
Honestly, you cannot say that a distance runner who only now has even come within ten seconds of the 1500m world record deserves a contract similar to a guy who is about the same age and has run 43.6 already. At the moment, unfortunately, the De Grasse and Bromell contracts are looking even worse than Hunter's. They would have been worth the money if they remained at or above that level, while Hunter has a long way to go to be competitive on the world scene.
Drew got $60k/base for 8 years.. he has great performance bonuses (sub-3:55 mile, sub-3:54, sub-3:53) as well as US Ranking and making the Olympic team, etc, take him well into 7-figures.

Exactly!..Dude just does not get it.

We are not talking about those other runners. They have nothing to do with Drew and vice versa.
At 20 years old, solid mile time, solid 1500m time, made an olympic team, and he comes from a huge running family? He is worth the contract that adidas gave him. And he ran the second fastest mile anchor leg in history, so dude is a high school legend.
Drew Hunter is going to have a solid career.
At this point, you're trolling.

Is it "great news" or "not really news"? You've really got me mixed up.

In all fairness, Hunter and Lyles’ contracts both seemed to be more prospective contracts and were made long term because of that.
1-3 million isn’t as troublesome over 10 years as it is over 5 years. Not only is the athlete much more likely to improve over the time period, but the sponsor will also likely see a great return on their investment in terms of media attention and merchandise sales.
Just look at how much attention Hunter and more specifically Noah Lyles have gotten over the past year alone. I’m sure kids are lining up to buy spikes and apparel just because they’ve seen these two wear them before.

It’s an announcement that nearly everyone saw coming, I’m happy for Norman, but I want more info, that’s it.
