I would be surprised if he could break 6500 points. Has he ever even completed one decathlon? Ever pole vaulted even 10 feet or even picked up a shot or jav? He is currently playing the same game several other pros have when their career is over...try another sport that they were once good at. Tim Tebow anyone? His only shot is the 400 hurdles, and even that is a huge stretch at this point.
I broke 6500 points my first year of decathlon, and I was a 4/8 guy prior to that, with zero experienc in hurdles, throws, pv (I did a little hj and lj in middle school so knew the ver basics).
RG3 is worlds faster than me, a similar size, and already a very good hurdler. I cant possibly imagine him failing to go over 6500 points in his first year if he was serious about it unless he is way less of an all around athlete than he appears.
Bet against him breaking 8000? Sure, reasonable. I bet if he put his mind to it, he could eventually do it, but it wouldnt be surprising either if he couldn't. But 6500 points should be easy for somebody with his speed and explosiveness.
Lets guess at some numbers for fun:
He ran 13.3 over the hs 110mh, so he should breeze a 14.5 over the highs even at the beginning of a comeback. (911 pts)
He split a 45 in hs in the 400, so call that a 48 in a decathlon while not yet in shape. (909 pts)
Combine 40y suggestd about 10.6 conservatively for the 100m, so call that a 10.8 in a dec as worst case. (906 pts)
He has a 10ft standing lj, so with horid technique he should pull off a 23ft lj based on speed. (816 pts)
39inch standing vert he should be able to sit over 6 ft in the hj (653pts)
Presume he as some aggressiveness in pv, he should be able to at least stick vault 11 ft within a few months just by throwing up his hand and jumping at the plant and swinging halfway up. (441 pts)
Jav assume he is really terrible and throws like 140 feet (481 pts)
Discus same assumption of bad technique as jav, assume 125 feet from a standing throw, this is seriously worst case for his size and explosiveness (626 pts)
Shotput worst case is about 40 ft with no technique for his size and speed (618 pts)
That takes him into the 1500m with 6364 pts. If he runs a ridiculous 5:30 1500m, he would end up with 6763 pts. This is pretty much worst case scenario where he competes in a decathlon with reasonable fitness but only a few months of preparation in the new-to-him skill events.
