as has been mentioned, i am the old dude who is 2-0 vs. el g, but i wasn't that old when i raced him twice in 1994, berlin and brussels equivalents of today's diamond league meets. as far as i can recall, those are the only two times i raced him. don't think you could really claim this was at his prime, though two years later he was a favorite to medal in atlanta...
coincidentally, i beat stember once as well, but he was a h.s. kid running the prefontaine meet against pros...
for what it's worth, there's no way i'd count a win over a dnf, especially in a marathon, but i suppose you're welcome to set your own parameters for success, just as we are welcome to disagree on said parameters...
