I beat Eric Avila when he was at SOU. Granted, he wasn't as good as he was his senior year or after, but still. Probably my biggest scalp.

chris solinsky.
XC state meet. he was only a freshman though....
I once was at a running camp with Dathan Ritzenhein. This was the summer before his senior year and on a group run at one point we ascended a 100 step stoop at a park, which turned into a sprint where I managed to beat him to the top. Who knows, he may not have been giving it his all, but I was always pretty proud of that, given what he had accomplished and would go on to accomplish. And as an aside, he was a really nice guy. Just a terrific experience getting to meet him and run with him.
Alex Hatz, Jesse Garn, Alex Dier, Steve Mangan, Brycen Spratling

Hatz (4x8, we were the same leg), Garn (1 mile), Dier and Mangan (800), Brycen (400)
John Trautman in 1991 at a high school XC alumni race in Monroe NY the day after Thanksgiving. I ran 15:10 for 5K and finished second and he was third I can't remember his time. I thing he may have been hung over.

Who is the fastest runner you have ever actually won over? (Better result in a race.)
I am not talking about someone who is DNS because then you didn’t actually beat them in “the field of play.”
My “PB scalp” is Galen Rupp in the 2018 Boston Marathon.
At the Army 10 Miler in 2016 I saw Paul Chelimo coming back to me and was excited I was going to get a Chelimo scalp right after he medalled in Rio. I was disappointed to see that he dropped out right in front of me, meaning that I wouldn't actually get a scalp.
Point being, a DNF doesn't make a scalp.
Frank Shorter in a 10K road race back in May 1983. Passed him in the last 400-600m. Obviously Frank was not in his prime anymore.

DNF isn't a win.
I think you misunderstood.
HE was DNF. So I beat him.
Doesn't count, you sound desperate.
I beat Lopez Lomong in an XC dual meet his first year running.
He later lapped me in an indoor 3200m.
No, actually quit and fake an injury. Had nothing to do with his fitness.
I beat Jesse Owen's twice(both in the 100).

I know an old dude who beat El G. I think he posts here from time to time.
My best is Michael Stember when he was trying to resurrect his running career in 2008.
Socal Cush, perhaps?
Dan Browne.... saw the rings on his shoulder as I rolled him up. He probably hadn't run in a couple months and was terribly out of shape. I'll take it.

DNF does not count as truly beaten unless it’s on a 1 on 1 race.

Yes, it is beating someone. It doesn't not matter if there are two people in the race (which never happens, duh, what is 1-on-1?), 100 like the Olympics and Paula DNFs, or me beating Rupp in Boston.
A better result is a better result. And even three hours is a better result than not finishing.

I DNF in Chicago marathon at mile 22 knowing the cold weather was going to do me in. I was brought to the tent with hypothermia.
You sound pretty soft.
How do you even get "hypothermia" while running if it isn't even truly cold (above freezing temperature)?
Answer: You don't. You get hypothermia by DNFing and sitting around in your shorts getting a ride to the finish area.
Should have run it in. Look how many thousands of people BEAT you.
