I think what everyone here is missing is that there is athlete fatigue in the marketplace.
People are tired of LeBron James.
People are tired of Tiger Woods.
People are tired of Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi.
People are tired of Serena Williams and Roger Federer.
People are tired of Alyson Felix.
People are tired of the Kardashians.
There is always a major market for a fresh new talent with global domination ability. If she is the best in her discipline people won't care if it's the shot put or the 100m dash. They will care about HER.
Yes, a huge global audience will eagerly look forward to the women’s 400m hurdles.
Are you serious?
I disagree with the part about people being tired of star athletes. People will always take a fresh face and get excited about an up-and-coming talent, but that doesn’t mean they’re tired of the current legends.
That being said, McLaughlin could easily be the next face of track and field. That video someone’s posted earlier in the thread with her in the blocks went viral pretty quick, nothing crazy but non-track people were retweeting it a decent amount. Even if it’s just about “wow she’s so hot”, it’s publicity and that’s a really strong sign for when she actually starts to get the ball rolling.
Not to mention, she’s good at other random things that would up her publicity levels with headlines about her being not only an incredibly talented hurdler, but also crazy good at jugging, etc.
