Just watched Daniel Skandera run a 4:46. Jakob who?

Very fast but no way to know if 4:00 at 18 or 4:30.
Wasn’t it a 1500?
Nope not a 1500, was a full 1609 meters. He ran a 4:53 earlier in the summer, oh and he was barefoot as usual
Very impressive times for a young kid. That is really hard to fathom for a ten year old.
Now on to his parents:
- think the world should support them having 8 children
- homeschool those 8 children: you can imagine the quality education they are receiving
- have multiple children setting age group world records. I'm sure that is totally a coincidence and the parents don't push them at all. I'm sure it is all very healthy and balanced

Kids that young shouldn't be involved in hard training for running or swimming or anything else. They should be spending their time being kids. The parents are a**holes vicariously living through the poor kid's pointless "success".
If a 17 y old Ingebrigtsen can be trained to run 3:31 which is equivalent to a sub 3:50 mile, why can't a 10 y old run a minute a mile slower?
There is always a hype about these child phenomenons, but simply put they are just training much more systematic in terms of both, quality and volume, than other kids their age who do very limited running training if they run at all.
Interesting is just the long time development, usually these kids reach their maximum potential just much earlier or not at all. Quite likely he quits running in 3 to 5 years.
That’s nothing. Get back to me when you can run a marathon.

Exactly. Anyone can run a mile. It isn't that far. A marathon is proof that your really strong, fit and endurance. It is the ultimate test of your athleticism. Only real runners do marathons. Some people are just afraid to run longer distances I guess. If you want to become a true runner join Marathon Maniacs.

, you're an idiot. If you are seriously suggesting that the only way this 10 year old (with a freakishly good middle distance pedigree) could impress you would be by running a quick marathon which could have many serious impacts on his health, you're a twat
Where did he run this time?
Doesn't count if he didn't run the extra .344 meters. But seriously, thanks for letting me know. The barefoot aspect fascinates me (even knowing there are millions in East Africa, among other places, who do this).

How much is he training? If he is actually training like those crazy kids at the road races, not that impressive.

well Jakon ran 4,21 in the 1500 when he was 11, lets see if skandera can do that next year.
...and an idiot. Do you even know who Carrie Garrison (Garritson?) was?
Figure it out before responding next time.
did this really happen? where are the results, what meet was this at, etc
I don't think there any correlation between pre-teen runners times and their adult times.
And, of course, to back that up I'll bring out the anecdotal evidence. Back when I was in 9th grade running about a 5:12 mile with no training in Junior High (Junior high was 7th-9th grade back then), I knew a 7th grader who ran a 4:58 mile. He'd been running a few years and did some sort of training (not sure what kind). Come HS I slowly improve to a 4:16 by 12th grade.
This kid is on the XC team and makes varsity, but is like our 7th man, but he keeps saying he's better at track. Track comes around and he's running about a 4:48 mile. He's not even the top Sophomore on our team. After I graduate, he continues to stagnate and never improves at all.
I know a few other cases of guys (and gals) who start training and racing early who don't show the kinds of improvement from 9th to 12th grade most kids do.
So, no, I don't think this kid is the next Jakob, or Webb, or German. I'm not saying he can't be, but I'm more interested in what he runs at age 17 and 18 than and 10.
Theoniongoat,
Without addressing all the snark, his older brother just got into MIT based on the "quality education" he received at home.

Yeah, with all the information available nowadays people still have no knowledge of our sport. Hopefully he and others will research child prodigies and parents who coach and push their young kids.
As the meet was last night I don't have results or such, but here's an article from when he ran 4:53 earlier this summer
