i've always found it a strange phenomenon, but when i run daily, i feel less hurt vs when i take days off. when i run daily, my legs might feel fatigued, and it takes a while to get warmed up, but generally my daily runs feel better than they would after a day off. with days off, little niggles appear. there is more pain. my legs definitely feel fresher, but there is more joint/bone/tendon pain.
its almost like the body refuses to allow pain to occur because it knows it has to step up and be ready for the next day. and then it lets its guard down when you take a day off.
the one thing i will say, however, is that the body absolutely does need breaks. no matter whether you feel pain or not, if there is something brewing and you keep running on it, its not going to end well. i do recommend taking a day off every now and again (every 10 days maybe)... just to see if anything pops up that requires more attention.
also, there should be 1 or 2 significant down periods of running per year. some people do 2 2 week periods of absolutely no running. some people 1 6 week period. i do 1 month of light running in July and 1 month in dec-jan.
recovery, proper sleep, stress, etc.. all need to be considered daily.
