So, did this athlete end up running despite having evidence of an injury? If you run on a stress reaction or stress fracture, they usually progress into a full blown fracture...

Nothing but respect for what coach Helen has done the past couple years at USF. But does anyone else think this many not last long? She was head coach of an entire program for 15 years at a small under funded program. Now she's no longer calling the shots, she's at the biggest program in the country, and she's going from San Fransisco to Eugene.
Obviously she wanted this, as she applied and accepted. But I see her heading back to Cali whenever Cal (her alma mater) opens up the director position.

Ya'll realize that OU already had 4 international women on their distance squad last year right?
The new coach will fit in just fine to what Robert wants.
As we all know Roberts job is judged on winning not on the number of Americans he has on the team.
He has scholarship money to balance to get the most for the buck and if foreign athletes give thats were he will spend it.
This statement is one of the many things that is wrong with NCAA sports.
NCAA athletics should not be win at all costs and therefore import points from around the world at the cost of the US tax payer. The NCAA needs to put limits on scholarships to foreign athletes. My suggestion is 25%. Why have tax payers fund, train, and educate so many other country’s future Olympians to in-turn compete against American Olympians?

If that happens, Cal would be extremely lucky to have her. We shall see.
Cal is spending 30 million dollars, yes, 30 MILLION to upgrade women's softball and Beach volleyball facilities to satisfy title IX requirements, the track program is hanging by a thread due to the budget disaster that is Memorial stadium.
Has for Helen USF had no track team to speak of other than distance runners.

She wasn't running on a stress reaction, it was already a stress fracture. Helen said don't worry about it, doc says it's just a reaction, you can finish these couple races no problem.
Athlete goes to the doc later and doc says "how's the stress fracture healing?" She says "what stress fracture, I only had a reaction?" Doc says "no I made it very clear it was a stress fracture."
Wah wah win at all costs

^^^and that’s how you know this is fake. Doctors don’t share medical information with the coach. They share it with their patient.

That's total BS. No one can run on a fracture.
You're just making up a far fetched story, and repeating the same thing over and over.

Were you ever a D1 athlete? I beg to differ. All the athlete does is allow the results to be released to their trainer, who shows it to the coach. No HIPAA violation because the athlete released it to those parties.
I don't know why you all are so confident this didn't happen, the girl literally told me and I am pretty sure she also mentioned the school found out and reprimanded Helen so it's not like it's a huge secret...

Hillary H.?
I think this is 2 upgrade hires for Oregon if anything the Powell's underperformed at NCAA cross despite having more talent then almost every single other school every single year. Assuming that all the Oregon women stay for Oregon this coming Cross year it should be an epic battle between the Oregon Women and the New Mexico Women for Women's Cross NCAA Champs. GO DUCKS
1. Women way OVERperformed in 2016 - no one saw that national title coming. Don't throw BS around when simple research proves you wrong. 2. UofO women's team losing some blue chippers this season. Won't contend for the title. (Damage could be offset somewhat if USF girls follow their coach to Eugene tho...)

It depends on the fracture.
Are the Oregon women switching to more 5k/10k/XC with this hire? The ducks have more sub 4:20 girls in a season than USF has had all-time. Maybe it’s just available talent, but Helen has proven to get good overseas talent. Most likely, Helen wanted to focus on the longer events. And she’s been successful with that.
It will be interesting to see the direction of the team and if Helen can coach more 1500-5k than 5k-10k.

Thats what I've been wondering myself. But Ben Thomas has had the opposite for him...more success with 800/1500 types than 5/10k/XC. So seems to me the more than obvious scenario would be Ben Thomas working with the mid long distance types and Helen working with the longer distance runners.
That would make sense to get the most out of each of the coaches abilities. I'm not saying that either coach can't coach the other disciplines. It's just what they have been successful with the past 10 years. From a logistics standpoint that doesn't work well thoughl. It's best to keep the genders separate and have individuals move between mid-distance and long-distance groups if needed.
