So USADA just nailed Ryan Lochte for the same thing they've been trying to take down Galen Rupp and the NOP for -- receiving too much of a legal substance through an IV infusion, in this case more than 100 mL in a 12-hour period.
USADA says they investigated him because -- get this -- he posted an image of himself receiving an infusion on social media (appears to be Instagram). Now he's banned for 14 months.
Here's what USADA said in its release (the actual link on the USADA site isn't working right now):
"USADA announced today that Ryan Lochte, of Gainesville, Fla., an athlete in the sport of swimming, has accepted a 14-month sanction for his use of a prohibited method.
"On May 24, 2018, Lochte, 33, posted an image on social media depicting himself receiving an intravenous infusion. A subsequent investigation by USADA, with which Lochte fully cooperated, revealed that Lochte received an intravenous infusion of permitted substances at an infusion clinic in a volume greater than 100 mL in a 12-hour period without a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE).
"Intravenous infusions or injections in a volume greater than 100 mL within a 12-hour period are prohibited at all times – except for those legitimately received in the course of hospital treatment, surgical procedures, or clinical diagnostic investigations under the USADA Protocol for Olympic and Paralympic Movement Testing, the United States Olympic Committee National Anti-Doping Policies, and the Fédération Internationale de Natation Anti-Doping Rules, all of which have adopted the World Anti-Doping Code and the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List."

In case you need a refresher on what NOP (allegedly) did, here's a refresher:

I really feel bad for Lochte. He would probably be able to qualify for the special Olympics if he got tested. It’s not his fault.
-
I'm not surprised, they're all doping at the top.

Can anyone find a photo of the drip? I'm curious what substance he was taking. But also it sounds like there was no attempt to dope. If you're going to dope why would you take a photo of it? -

Did not Lochte call out a Chinese swimmer for doping or something at the last Olympics?
Anyway it does seem unfair that Lochte gets a ban when NOP were doing at least the same thing. It is like Chris Froome not being punished at all for having high salbutamol levels in his system while other riders with lower levels of salbutamol in their system did get a ban. It's one thing to have rules but another thing to apply them equally. -

Dopers call out other dopers to deflect from their doping( see Carl Lewis and Paula Radcliff as examples). -
He is a dumba s s. Athletes are not allowed to receive IV treatment, unless it is being administered in a hospital or medical facility. To my understanding, that is what he was banned for.
He posted a photo of himself getting IV treatment In May, but it was not facilitated by a hospital or MC, and he didn't have a TUE for it.
People will post anything , and they don't realize or concern themselves with the possible repercussions of what they post......desensitized to the point, where privacy is not a concern anymore. -

Because Lochte is not exactly the brightest light bulb. JEAH!
Doping is an IQ test and well... Lochte. -

Clean athletes cheated by dopers call out dopers. You have no idea what it feels like to be cheated by a doper. I don’t wish this feeling upon anyone. -
How do they prove that he actually infused more than 100 mL in a 12-hour period? Even if they can see the size of the bag in the photo, can't he just say "you can't prove that I took the whole bag" and claim that he stopped running the pump before the bag was empty?
The fact that he didn't push back makes me even more suspicious that he was trying to avoid further investigation (once you say "prove it," they might uncover something more serious in attempt to do so). -

Maybe this explains now why Rupp isn't on social media. ;)
My favorite sports radio host Colin Cowherd once said he didn't really do twitter and his explanation was a good one. It doesn't make him money and it could potentially get him fired. -
How did Lochte obtain a degree from an accredited university?
“I’ve talked in front of … like … a lot of big business people about stuff I didn’t even know.”
“Something will pop up in my head. It could be like the weirdest thing. Like all’a sudden like I have like a jumping banana in my head. And I stop and pause. I’m like that damn jumping banana is in my head. Like, I don’t know what’s going on.”
“We have a lot of stuff in common. She likes salt and vinegar chips, like the white gummy bears, she lives here in Miami.” -

.
No, athletes can “self administer” IV fluids (legal substance) if it’s 100 ml or less in a 12 hr period. Only if it exceeds this or using an illegal substance must there be a TUE and done so in a hospital/surgery/clinical setting.

How much do you think he was paid to post that photo that tagged the location/company ?
Hope it was worth it because he is now ineligible for the 2019 WCs. -

Probably nothing.
I didn't watch his reality show but my wife watched the first episode. She told me it was unwatchable because of how stupid he is. -

An article on Bloomberg today says it was b complex vitamins because his wife and son were sick and he was trying to prevent himself from getting sick prior to national champs this week. -

Doubt he would have qualified for WCs at Nationals this week anyway. -

So again, how do they prove anything based on this photo? It seems reasonable to assume that he took more than 100 mL, but a reasonable assumption isn't proof. Couldn't Guido McDoucheface just say "I put the IV in, took the picture, and took it right back out. Prove that I didn't."
