Damn, that's fast

her legs look like chopsticks. So lean but so strongQ
Hassan form looks like a giant spider moving on the track.
Oh. Muir home devastated
The equivalent of 3:55-56 1500m
Sifan Hassan has a body build which looks natural.
must have a good coach
which means she's NOT on the sauce wrote:

+1
Saw the result on twitter and thought it was a 1500m race.
4:14 is pretty darn fast! Where would that put her on the all-time list?
I believe it's 2nd all time
Sorry, third.

I am amazed that Alberto didn't try to completely alter her form (at least the arms) resulting in an endless stream of career-shortening injuries.
I am a big fan of hers, easily the best range of any current athlete being truly world class 800m-5000m. Hopefully it's just a case of a talented athlete with (legal) resources behind them and not "let's pump this world class athlete with L-cartinine and watch them get even better".
Thanks for the list. So basically she just pulled a Dibaba!

I think there is a obvious problem with your starry eyed fandom. Do you honestly think that Houlihan doesn't have the same kind of range? Would have been interesting if she had been on Hassan's shoulder with 150 m to go.

Houlihan is great but Hassan would eat her alive.

Houlihan has not run under 1:57 for 800 and 14:22 for 5k within the last year or so. She could probably go at least 1:58 right now, but PB's favor Hassan. Dibaba at full force would be there too obviously but who knows.

To be fair, didn't Houlihan just beat Hassan last month?

Absolutely true and totally fair. In my opinion, Hassan seems to have rounded into better form, though.

No.
According to McMillan, 4:14 is worth 3:54.8; 4:15 is worth 3:55.7. (Decimals are not allowed for an input in that calculator.)
According to Daniels / VO2Max, 4:14.5 is worth 3:55.69.
According to Purdy, 4:14.5 is worth 3:54.76.
According to Cameron, 4:14.5 is worth 3:55.10.
According to Riegel, 4:14.5 is worth 3:56.21.
According to Tinman, 4:14.5 is worth 3:55.5.
Sifan Hassan's 1500m PR is 3:56.05. That race was the race where Dibaba set the WR of 3:50.07.
So basically Hassan ran a few tenths faster that the equivalent of her 1500m PR -- after a couple years of doing more distance work -- and keeping in mind that the race where she set her 1500 PR there was no competition pulling / pacing her to a faster time.
Fastest mile ever by a woman not linked to doping. Well done.
But WWSD (what would Shelby do)?
wwsd? would have taken Slaney out of the record book!!!!
