What a stupid rule. People should avoid this race, or run, whatever it is.

Rupp was aided throughout his marathons, ice cap, water, etc.... who cares??? It’s a 100 mile race. F the race director!!
DQ Daniel. Same type of person like permit patty and those others calling the police for petty bs.
LRC Army should get this overturned for the good of the sport!!!
I've always had bad vibes about the race, I mean run, with the shady lottery system. Going forward I'll make sure to rightly shxt on it whenever I can. Maybe this race, I mean run, will just go away and ultra runners will focus on legit races in the United States and legit ones in Europe like UTMB.

Leader was French & the RD disqualified him. Not sure if the race has time penalties. Rules are rules though. Sucks for Xavier Thévenard, he easily was winning the race. Hardrock actually call this is a run & not a race. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
I am a huge Browning fanboy, he's an absolute beast, and a true student of the sport and in general a mad scientist with everything he does, hence, running at an elite level still at 47. This one sucked though, and I can guarantee you nobody feels more shoddy about everything than Browning. He had great words of admiration for Xavier during the pre race interview, while the 1st place finish is awesome for his resume, he even noted on IG, this is "bittersweet.."
While a lot are blasting the final call, this was a big error, and maybe 15-20 years ago, this goes unnoticed, but there is so much transparency anymore with GPS tracking, race photographers and media playing a role, somebody would have caught this. Costly mistake, and I hope Xavier rebounds strong from this. He's 23, so barring a crazy injury, he has a long career ahead of him. Crazy day though for sure.

Or not run races where you don't agree with the rules.
I disagree, all you sticklers for the rules are pathetic!!! The penalty is just CRAZY. OTOH, his crew messed up and he was DQ-ed as a consequence. I feel bad for him.
I love ultras and run them, too... My opinion is that the whole 'shtick' with support is too much. All races have aid stations, and I believe that all racers should used them exclusively. No outside support, period! It would be a lot easier...
And please, don't me started on pacers. Really??? Let's get this BS out of the sport. Pace yourself, or off your competitors. This whole 'pacing crap' is getting ridiculous. It's a freaking race!!!
Anyways, as much as I love the community and camaraderie of U.S. based ultras, the cliquish attitude of many race organizers is off-putting. I wonder if Killian is going to show the HR100 a finger next time around;)

America first. Dq all foreigners...ah i mean all not american born ones
The only reason I follow some of the American ultras is because of the talented European runners. What a load of bollocks this decision!
They invite him to enter the lottery next year lol At least offer him a definite place ffs!
If I was him I would never come back to Hardrock.

Oh wow..I honestly thought I read somewhere he was 23. Man, idk the more I think about this, it's pretty lame. Maybe take a time penalty, I am torn. Respect the rules, but ya a DQ is tough to digest on something relatively small. Wonder how this story manifests overtime.
This race is a joke. Lottery system favors older runners with multiple finishes and ensures there is little competition at the front.

Stay away from races that have stupid rules.
Apart from Xavier, I can't remember seeing a high level ultra (in terms of profile) with such a weak mens field.
The race has 11 rules. The first rule is “no whining”, the 8th rule is “Enjoy yourself!!!!!” ( yes, with 5 exclamation marks). How serious is a runner suppose to take the rules? How many runners enjoyed themselves for the entire race course? How many runners who were not enjoying themselves were DQ’d?
It also clearly specifies that if someone receives aid outside an aid station then they “may” be disqualified. So the race director could have chosen to not disqualify him for receiving “aid” outside of an aid station. this was a judgement call. I wonder if maybe he didn’t look like he was enjoying himself enough, he didn’t have a big enough smile on the course, and that was the real reason for being disqualified.
If the Hardrock 100 allowed people to brazenly break the rules about aid/crew access they would no longer get permits from the National Park System to hold the event. The permit for the event is given on a year by year basis. The National Park System regulations are also the reason most American races have rules about cutting switchbacks. Europeans complain about these rules before they even ask why the rules are in place. If the rules were not in place the event would cease to exist because they would no longer get permits from the National Park System.

The person only "may" be disqualified because they might not get caught. You can't say "shall" because you can't guarantee that you'll catch all violators.

You really think this is the rational for the use of the word “may” in how rules are written? And so no rule can say “shall” because you can’t guarantee catching someone? That’s fantastic. Out of curiosity, did you ever learn to tie your own shoes or do you rely on Velcro?
The field is so thin that there's virtually no competition at hardrock. They dqed the only great athlete at international level running this year, what a joke.
Ok, I am not getting this.
If its a ‘run’ and not a ‘race’ why are there restrictive rules?
Who cares about a stray sip of water,
It’s a run.
No?
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
