Four tips for skinnyfat hobby joggers

Well, these "tips" are only for skinnyfat hobby joggers. If you are not skinnyfat like OP, his tips are irrelevant.

Varying calorie intake is another useful tool. Up day/down day, alternate day fasting, fast diet, just eating more on workout days, whatever you call it, it helps.

The paleo thing is not good for your body. I think people misunderstand what carbs are. They are thinking white bagels and croissants. Think whole veggies and whole grains. Those are the best things you can eat.

Folks get lean on the paleo, but it’s in spite of all the meat, not because of it. What is making them lean is cleaning up all of the soda and donuts and other s#it they were eating before they went paleo. But they incorrectly attribute it to the meat intake.

That said, you are 100% accurate in saying that the diet is what takes the weight off, not exercise.

Going to shout this until I am blue in the face or can see a runner do more than one half assed pull up. Sure, your body is lean cuisine when your still producing lots of T, but when you're above 35, and all you do is still run, you're not helping yourself. Running by itself is catabolic by nature, and if no resistance training is supplementing your running, you'll continue to be just skin and bones.

Liposuction. Otherwise, you can't "spotcheck" areas of fat. You can't firm up fat and can't lose it in specific areas. The body chooses where it will take the fat from when it needs it.

I hear a lot of people on these kinds of threads who are schismatic about what they stick in their mouths. Very prone to fads and absolutist thinking regarding diet, but usually still fat or fighting more than average with food(and alcohol) and weight. It doesn't have to be like that.

Booze causes weight gain due to excessive calories, not the quantity of carbs. This is science. It works. Try it.

Certainly an ongoing scientific debate about whether carbs are the culprit but there are studies that show the increased effects of carbs v. fats as to increased insulin production and more activation of the hunger mechanism. I just finished a book on the ketosis diet which forces the body to burn fat instead of carbs. The diet has historically been used to treat childhood epilepsy. The Atkins diet is a modified version.

I'll bet you are also totally convinced that the climate has never been so warm as it has been for the last century and that life can spring from inanimate matter.

You only need two tips:

1. Eat a whole foods, plant based diet

2. Run a lot of slow / easy miles

You will drop weight, run faster, and sleep better at night knowing you are not murdering animals for food.

A. There is no "scientific debate". The carb/insulin theory has been disproved, in major part by studies funded by Gary Taubes (who got a lot of money out of it). The only debate is from those who have a vested interest in continuing the keto magic pill nonsense.

B. It doesn't matter if you burn carbs or fat, in the end it's fat stored = calories in - calories out.

C. Yes, keto is used to treat childhood epilepsy and is a great thing for that. From its use for epilepsy, we know there are some very serious and sometimes fatal side effects of long-term keto. Worth the risk for some epilepsy patients.

D. Keto is an effective way to control your calories and therefore lose weight, but it's not superior in any way to any other calorie restriction diet.

Keto, Atkins and paleo are good ways to die of heart disease.

If you're "skinnyfat," eat less or run more. It's that simple. You can eat high carb, low carb, all butter, whatever turns your crank. Just find the balance of calories in, calories out.

This may work for awhile, but eventually you are going to get hurt and your mileage will drop. When that happens you are going to gain a ton of fat.

Yep! I ran sub-16 for 5k in my mid-40's off 60 mile weeks. Then a year or so later the injuries rolled in and 40 a week was a struggle between injuries and my weight went from 158 to 173. Not good. I ate too much late at night. The weight takes a couple months to put on, but many many months to remove again.

It's not so simple. Many people have tried this approach and most have failed. A low-carb diet coupled with Intermittent Fasting is by far the most effective method I've tried to eat less.

It is that simple. I've lost 15 kilos over 6 years just by eating less. I've built up to running 70-80kmw, but what keeps the fat off is just not eating so much.

To eat less, it helps me to eat after working out.

What you eat is not very important for weight. What matters is how much you eat (caloric intake). You can eat a crappy diet and lose weight by eating a small amount of it.

I do, however, eat very little red meat and I sleep just fine thank you very much.
