This came out of nowhere--good hiking/ running/ active dog; 8 years old, almost 9. Looks like Petey from the Little Rascals.
Last Wednesday he was limping and I thought it was a thorn in his paw. Thursday morning it was worse, and we made an appointment with our vet for Friday. Turns out he has lung and spinal cancer. Paralyzed from hips down on Friday night. Gave him meds to reduce the pain, but this cancer is nasty. He's been great with my kids--very loving and protective over them as they were babies and now.
I hate the idea of "choosing" dog euthanasia, but he'll likely die within 10 days and really suffer. He's lost control of his bowels and is in pain. Meds make him happy and give him an appetite.
Never had a dog before, and I'm really struggling. Any support or advice is requested. Thanks all.
PS- this dog could RUN. We did a 6 miler together at 5:40-50 pace and he was awesome doing it. I'm really bummed I can't even walk him tonight.
