It's crazy to me that people think that Mary Cain will ever be fast ever again

So what happened with her? The Kenyan girls were no match her at the world youths.
I don't get it. She ran 9:38 two-miles at age 16! How can she be slow now??
I know who her coach is but the question is who has he ever coached of note that we think he can handle someone who has world class goals?
He came I to the picture when she went to Salazar and was still at home she need ad d someone to administer AlSals workouts, pretty much just hold a watch.
But can anyone name and world level athletes her coach has guided to success.
I respectfully disagree. Her temperament was her greatest asset, going back to her junior high days.
Your last paragraph is where you get it most right. Her physical is an outcome of her mental/emotional/spiritual being. There are physical gifts, surely. But her mental makeup, her enthusiasm for life -- with running just being a part of it -- is the greater cause of her success, not the effect of it. If Mary can recover (what I think of it as) her joy, the rest will follow. It is the easier part for her.

Why do these track and field women show a 1/4 of their ass.
Well, how much would YOU consider it acceptable for them to show? Is this your sole focus when watching women's track & field? You are pathetic.

Can't really figure this out. No way they let her race without gauging her fitness and thinking she'd be in the ballpark. But she just did not look like she was in good shape. Seems that most of the top finishers had PRs and you can sort of see it in their physique that they were race ready. They were all very lean but Cain really is carrying extra pounds. Disclaimer: if she was a civilian there would be no question that she looks great but racing a sub 9, 3000 -- she'd have to lose 10 lbs at least. Wonder if we'll see her in another race. I certainly hope so.
Sisson and Purrier are bigger than Cain. Thinner does not automatically equal faster, particularly with females.

Look at pictures of her at 17 and then a couple of years later. Her body changed a lot. Wider hips, more weight. Both very bad for a runner. Not much you can do about nature. (Unfortunately not possible to upload pics on Letsrun forum)

True they are bigger than her but they always have been. Her body has changed and I bet not going back
Yeah, you're a real professional coach....NOT

Boys
It never ceases to amaze me at how STUPID the collective IQ of LetsRun so-called "runners" are on this board. I'm a field event guy, but I know from personal experience both as an athlete and coach with over 40 years in the sport that there's nothing wrong with Mary other than lacking conditioning and racing for the last 2 years. TALENT, which she has boocoo amounts of, certainly tons more than most you morons here, NEVER goes away. Only conditioning does. It's obvious to me that Mary has chosen to get in races this summer, despite her lack of fitness, not only to ENJOY being on the track again, but to use this summer season to run her way back into shape using the races as speed training.
It amazes me you dolts on here don't understand that. No wonder why LetsRun and its founders have such crappy reputations in the track & field world.
That was good words I say, but she needs a new coach capable of taking her fast back in shape now.A coach that knows how to get back in shape without too much racing. She shouldnt stay with present coach. And yes, talent never goes away.
One of the problems was that her performances had already started to slip before the injury. Her body has changed and nothing she can really do about that.
interesting. It's funny that Jim Ryun isn't winning races anymore. People do age and with age comes change. Girls are different than boys. Boys improve from 14 to 24. Girls sometimes peak at 14 before their bodies change. It has nothing to do with conditioning. Cain peaked in her teens while her body was changing.

Please, boocoo is a weasel world. Like collusion.

You're a moran. Talent does go away for any number of reasons.
Do you think her plan for racing back into shape involved dropping out? Maybe next time she will drop out at the bell.
I'd start her back with a few Turkey Trots and see how that goes before stepping up to pro track racing. I'm half joking here, but maybe she'll get that happy giddiness back if she wins a few races, even if they are against a bunch of hobby-joggers.
