Athletics World Cup Ltd has appointed STH Live as the Exclusive Sales Agent for hospitality and VIP tickets at the inaugural Athletics World Cup, hosted at the iconic London Stadium on 14-15 July.
No distance events. I'm not interested.
Was Koch's 400 WR set at the 1986 World Cup in Canberra the last WR set a World Cup?
Murphy is in 800 as is Kszczot. That's by far the best mid-d / distance event (they only have 800s and 1500s).
Kszczot went too early.
Cutting in early on Murphy with 175m to go is officially a bad race strategy. He just rages right back past.

Not sure if I care about the quality but I really like the team scoring. This might be a great format by adding World Relay championships events as well. Then I wouldn’t care that there weren’t any distance events.
So I give it a thumbs up with lots and lots of potential.
I am digging the team scoring, too. Good concept

I know. It's not enough. Really, I need at minimum a 5,000 to get me interested in a meet.
It was great that the U.S. won the 4x100 but didn't like that anchor runner kept running and disrespected the javelin throwers and their runway.
DK/NS how the teams will wackup the money but even up it's ~13 grand per athlete for the winning team (450ooo/34)
A bit less than 1700 a point if the total 2 mil was disbursed per point. 13 grand for the win and beer money for DFL .
The splits above, 54.5/1:21.5/1:46.5 indicate that Murphy ran not only 54.5/52.0 or so, but ran the second lap in 27/25 (not knowing exactly where he was at 400 or 600 but not leading). He may have been sub 25 for the last 200m, pretty strong in an 800m.
Why is the 1500 the longest distance?

I haven't seen anywhere how the US will distribute prize money but for the UK it's evenly between athletes with non competing really athletes getting half a share.
There are 42 competing athletes if athletes double 4x1/100 and 4x400/400 + alternates for relays. Only 45 athletes can be on a roster. Let's just go with 45 athletes as it will make the numbers rounder. Below is the prize money and what each athlete will get on each team if the money is splits equally. Considering if you win a DL event you get $10,000 it's not bad. It's the most equal distribution of money I've seen in the sport.
Prize money for Teams and amount if split equally
1 st $ 450,000 - $10k
2 nd $ 400,000 -$8,8k
3 rd $ 350,000 -$7.7k
4th $ 300,000 -$6.6
5th $ 250,000 -$5.5
6th $ 200,000 -$4.4
7th $ 150,000 -$3.3
8th $ 100,000 -$2.2
If you're 1st for the winning team or last for the 5th place team you're not going to get much difference in prize money. Or if you're first for the 1st place team and last for the 1st place team you get the same money if it's split equally.
Considering the stars of the sport gets huge appearance fees they have no incentive to show up. And if you're a pretty good person for a team that could finish 7th or 8th, you might not want to show up. And then there is the complicating factor that you have to run in kit of your country.
The incentive is for all the people who will be on a good team to show up in events that don't get paid a lot.
And it's just weird in an individual sport that the 8th place guy in a race if he's on the US might bet paid 5x more than the first place guy from the last place team.
Here are the standings after day 1.
US 109
France 85
Jamaica
Poland 77
GB 74
SA 73
Germany 58
China 46
Another way to divide the money would be off of points you contributed. As the poster noted above if each $ was divided by the number of points they'd be worth about $1800 a point (2.2 million/1224 points. So if you won an event you'd win $14.4k, if you got last $1800.
I'm assuming the US is dividing the money evenly but one might argue it is better to divide the US prize money $450,000 by the number of points for the US gets and then give each athlete the share they earned. So say the US ends up with 220 points. $450k/220=$2,045 per US point. So if you were on US team and finished last in your event you'd get $2,025. If you got first $16,363 (2025*8).
If China did this and finishes in last with 90 points then a Chinese athlete winning an event would get $8,888 and a last placer would get $1,111. $100,000/90

Not sure about you, but an 8 person (max) 5k/10k with no pacers wouldn't be particularly entertaining, especially considering some of the participating countries aren't exactly known for distance prowess and PRC hasn't had entrants in half the events anyway. Chances are it would be comically slow (side note: kudos to the French W1500 entrant for making that race semi-honest even though she had a slower PB). Best case scenario is a showdown over the last 1000m between a few 13:15-13:20 types.
If they did want a 5k I would make it 2 spots per nation so at least there is a decent sized field. Although that helps the US in the team race even more (assuming both athletes could score).
This is an awesome meet. Filled with CLEAN athletes, no pacemakers or outrageous times. I APPROVE.
Thanks for the UK Link..
Do you think USATF would release their plan if someone from the electronic press from the USA asked?
I like it- I like the team concept. I like not having 18 runners in a race. No rabbits- I do not like rabbits.
Great, enthusiastic crowd.
Have a 3000. No need for for 5 or 10.
t's like a high school dual meet EXCEPT for the 4x800 and I would love to see a 4x800!!!
