Does this seem kind of disturbing to anyone else? Is this a common injury and treatment? It sounds awful.

Anyway, I hope she recovers well and fast.

That sucks, but she better be thanking @saucony as most every brand passed on her because of these potential health issues.
Only a 2 mm gap? Just squirt some medical epoxy in there and call it good. Doesn't sound like a fun procedure with the bone marrow stuff.
who's this girl
The best Notre Dame runner named Molly since Huddle.
Despite her being a Notre Dame grad, she seems like a really good young lady and I hope she does well. It seems like she's been having a rough time over the last year or so.
This sounds extreme but is is more or less a stem cell procedure that we will likely start seeing more of. There's a regenerative sports medicine clinic near where I live that does this same thing for things like accelerating cartilage regeneration in damaged areas of joints. I hear it's really effective....and really expensive.
Reminds me of the NCAA 10k record holder, Lisa Kohl. Both are small so they shouldn’t be injured but injuries ended her career. I hope that is not the case here. Seidel looks like she was made for the 10k.
sad... :,(
Sounds like essentially she had a stress fracture that ended up having a nonunion because of continued stress. Its in a weird spot, but bone marrow aspirations and injections (she did not have a bone marrow transplant like she said-thats something entirely different) to treat fracture nonunions is very common and not very invasive (despite being painful for a few days). Its difficult to heal nonunions without compression through the fracture site so I wouldn't be surprised if this isnt the end of this saga for her
This really sucks. Wish her the best.
Don't you need some stress though to help it to heal? I would think for this location there isn't enough stress and poor blood supply, hence the non-union.

Ummm when it comes to distance runners I don't think it works that way.

+1
Wishing her well in her recovery.
However, this is not a surprise, she has been hurt since winning NCAA indoors in 2016. She has been chronically injured throughout her career. Extremely low body weight, low body fat and nutrients, along with overtraining is the root cause of her injuries.
When healthy and in shape, she is great.

Agree with your last statement. She looked healthy in high school and during her early college years before perhaps running into the "If I weigh less then I will run faster" mindset that affects so many runners, male and female.
I had stem cells injected into a non-union fracture - they pretty much poke a long needle into the bone repeatedly. Probably the most painful experience of my life (though I refused anesthesia so my own damn fault). I can't imagine haven't it done on your pubic bone. Godspeed, Molly.
Yea cause you know everything about her diet and training right? I wish I was as smart as you.
Tim Bro honestly sucks as a coach and a person (especially towards women). I hope she finds a new way and coach soon!

How many other first year pros have had a better year than her?
How many other Footlocker and NCAA cross country winners are doing better than her?
She seems to have developed well over a long period of time, despite these boards constantly saying she's going to burn out and be forced out of the sport by injury or health reasons.
I'd say she's doing alright. She seems to make good coaching choices and have the right people supporting her.
