The most ridiculous bit about Sharp's whingeing is the idea that somehow it affected her preparation, that's to say that had she known Muir was running, she'd have prepared differently?
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but anyone's preparation for their National Championships involves turning up on the day in the best shape possible, as simple as that.
OK, I'll correct you. Because you're wrong.
Do you think Evan Jager prepares for USATF the same way he prepares for Worlds or Olympics? Of course not, because nobody else in the US can come near 8:00 and nobody is running a 55-second last lap over barriers.
Do you think Centrowitz prepared for USATF the same way he prepared for global competitions. Of course not, because crap US milers don't have the ability to break 3:30, let alone close fast in a quick race.
Even slow guys like you approach their local Turkey Trot races differently if they are running against 17:00+ masters or the local college team enters a bunch of 14-15-minute guys.
Sharp could very reasonably hope to kick to a top-3 position and get selected in worlds. She is on the level with anyone else in the field, until Muir steps in.
People who don't get this are people who have never really competed for anything.
