I didn't research his claims but given Riley's stature, I figured it was worthy of publication.
He seemed dumbfounded by the early totals and appears to have assumed they only could have been achieved via cheating. He appears to have been incorrect about the latter but correct about the former. The pace was unsustainable.
I don’t think the pace was unsustainable for Dave as it really wasn’t too fast compared with other recent attempts like Pete K and it wasn’t his legs that broke down but his back..maybe constantly running on side of highway with the flight camber affected his back, who knows
With that said, this was Dave’s first real transcontinental attempt after basically just doing “short” ultra races to this point. Looking doubtful he’ll finish now but seems determined to still do so regardless of record if he can sort his back out
