For the person who brought up Steve Fonyo, he was the antithesis to everything that Fox was. Fox intended to raise $1 million in 1980. Since the attempt and the annual Terry Fox runs around the world that take place in September have raised over $700-million. There is a mountain in the Rockies named after him. In a nationwide poll taken by the CBC, Fox beat out all Canadians including ones that had very long careers or accomplished very big things before Fox did. He is revered. There are statues all across the country of him including Vancouver, Victoria, Ottawa and other cities...
Fonyo is a disgrace and an embarrassment. No one utters his name and if it came out that he cheated, no one could care less.
As for Proctor, he is about to get into the Coquihalla (Coke a hell a) climb, heading to Kamloops, so he will now meet elevation, potential heat, because it is semi-desert/semi-arid and potentially quick changing temperatures and Merritt, which is always sideways windy.
I think he could be "off pace" until after Calgary....Rockies, elevation, wild temperature swings will affect things. He is from Okotoks which is near Calgary, so he is used to semi-elevation - It will be the 25 days or so from Saskatchewan to Thunder Bay where there is a net downhill (I believe) to Ontario. I remember landing in Saskatoon and could see on the highway heading east so unbelievably far this .5% of a grade downhill the whole way to the horizon....(guessing on the grade).....If he can manage blisters etc etc, he will run faster through the prairies....
