What a classy way to step away from the sport. I wish more athletes could handle stepping away in a fashion that is thankful with no hidden bitterness. A thankful man.

Just read his statement. No drama. Just true appreciation for his sponsor and coach. Refreshing.
I believe that it is because he is a man.
He does show class and it's a shame we have to lose athletes like him.
But then, I always liked the athletes who just keep at it- Gaston Roelants was a childhood hero of mine and, as I recall, he just kept racing and it didn't seem to me to be a "hang up your spikes" situation but an- I love the sport and if come finish further back, so be it.
Huling went to Miami of Ohio when Gary recruited him? Did he compete at Ohio Staye or just pro with Gary?
Best wishes, Dan! You are a truly class act and I appreciate all of the motivation and advice that you provided the kids on the BTC youth program over the years.
While I would personally enjoy seeing the professionals keep at it long into their masters years, I fully understand them wanting to do something different for a change. Good luck to Dan.
Huling was developed at Miami University by Coach Mandrell, and then after graduation went to work with Robert Gary. He had a very good career at Miami University. It would have been nice of Huling to recognize a coach that worked his butt off for him.
Dan's folks live around here.
It was my hope he was taking a down year and would come back next year to prepare for the 2012 Trials. He worked out on our track last summer and is welcome back anytime. I hope he'll look us up when he next visits his folks.
Best to you and your family Dan. Your career was been done the right way!
Only i there was no guy named Evan

He did say coaches, high school through pro - obviously includes college. Just didn't single out Mandrell.
Also: Warren didn't work his butt off for anyone.
What is he going to do next?

+1. Plenty of state champions went there never to be heard from again.
Perfect encapsulation of letsrun.com.
1) Something positive (in this case, a well-liked pro retires with class and good humor)
2) blah blah blah
3) Somebody sucks

Letsrun is just a microcosm of the ever eroding world.
are Dan Huling and Tim Broe the same person? Look alike and very similar PRs
Happy retirement, Dan!

are you posting for him or trying to take a potshot at someone else or just always need to add some drama to anything you say?
