Anyone got info on his training?
Anyone got info on his training?
I thought I read he doesn't do runs longer than 20. He doesn't follow the crazy old school of Japanese 400 mile per week.
Here's this from Brett Larimer:
Stereotypical Japanese training is based on loads of mileage, but that isn’t really an accurate picture. There’s a wealth of approaches and ideas, especially among younger coaches who are able to get some degree of independence from the old boys higher up in the social hierarchy. Yuta Shitara who set the 2:06:11 NR last weekend in Tokyo appeared on a TV show this week with his coach saying that running mileage is an old-fashioned way of doing things and that he never runs over 30 kilometers. He said he does a lot of quality and always does a 25-30 km tempo run three days before a marathon, something that doesn’t fit any of the usual stereotypes at all.
I thought I had an actual weekly sample somewhere. If I find it I'll post it.
bump
Maximum mileage in one run is 30km. Distance he runs 3 days before a marathon: 30K
I'm guessing he runs about 30km a day. Not exactly low or moderate mileage.

As I said, somewhere I saw a sample week but can't find it anymore. He has some days with 2 x 20 km. It's not low mileage at all unless you're comparing it to the traditional Japanese approach. Maxing out the long runs at 25-30 km is maybe the biggest difference.
No one knows his training. There was disagreement whether he actually does 30km tempo 3 days before or not. Most on here thought he was misquoted.
It seems more Daniels than anything else. Lots of quality.
30km tempo 3 days b4, yeah right... wrote:

It seems like Larimer knows his training and he's always been credible. Maybe he was misquoted but just because many on here thought he was doesn't mean that was the case.
Here's the sample. It was actually on another thread here. I can't vouch for its accuracy:
Example of a training week of Yuta Shitara
-----------------------------------------------------
DAY 1 : 25 KM @ 4:00/KM
DAY 2 : 4 KM (WARM-UP) @ 4:30/KM, + 10X1KM ON/OFF (20K) @ 3:00-3:05 / 4:30-4:40 + 10 KM(COOL-DOWN) @ 4:45/KM
DAY 3 : AM - 20 KM @ 3:50/KM ; PM - 20 KM @ 4:15/KM
DAY 4 : 3 KM WARM-UP @4:30 + 25X400m with 400m REST ( 50 LAPS ) @ 66-68/LAP, REST LAP @ 5:00/KM, +COOL-DOWN 10 KM @4:45
DAY 5 : AM - 20 KM @ 4:05/KM ; PM -20 KM @ 4:05/KM
DAY 6 : 25 KM @ 4:00/KM
DAY 7 : 25 KM @ 3:10/KM, STARTING @ 3:20, FINISHING AT 2:5X/KM
TOTAL : 137 MILES

Thank you. I was looking for info on his training and couldn't find anything.
