anybody know what happened?
in what other sport do people commend (NBC announcers) someone for not showing up for a national championship final
Maybe he had a flight out of town to catch?
Huge money later in summer meets. Terrible warm-up conditions, extremely long delays, and massive headwind. Additionally, elite sprinter's warm-ups take longer than their workouts sometimes. Hard to time with a floating schedule. Look at the times in the 200 meter. Slowest winning times in many years. Getting an injury in the championship in a non-world champ or Olympic year is really not worth it for someone who is the fastest man in the world this year. He also does not want to hurt his appearance fees. Lots of money and a great future. A really awful situation as an athlete to be in.

he forfeited $8k of prize money to catch a flight?
8k ain't nothing, He will make much more than that in appearance money first meet in Europe, He is the world leader, the world not Iowa.
He commented on an instagram post that his coach pulled him. Probably did not want him getting injured after a short warmup/bad weather

Which is why I don't think booking a 200 dollar flight deterred him from running
I hope he isn’t injured again. I am really hoping he is the next Carl Lewis/Michael Johnson/Usain Bolt. The big concern with Norman is that he may have a glass body.

Also slow because of the giant headwind in their face.
Will be interesting to see. As Jamaica doesnt seem to have too much to counter back with in the Mens Sprints right now.
Correct on the wind. Not a great combination.

Both of these reasons. No upside for a top sprinter.
Its about a 45 - 60 minute warm up for each 10 second race. If everything is running on time and the weather is neutral. Good that he is making pragmatic decisions.
