The Mile WR back in British hands by 2040?
The British government has introduced plans to combat childhood obesity by making primary schools (ages 7 - 11) get all pupils to run for 15 minutes every day, on top of PE (gym) classes.
Restaurants, cafes and takeaway outlets will also be forced to display calorie counts.

But they get to stop for a pint at the pub on the route. -
Why don't they run to school and from school to their house?

Should try that here. I could see wide acceptance.
Helicopter parents could man a water station at the half way mark. -

The way I see it, it’s better than nothing even if they walk. Especially seeing as most kids dont even walk to school anymore, they just have mommy and daddy drop them off even though they life half a mile away. -
Cross-Country was compulsory for all school kids at one time. I think it stopped in the early 80's.
I remember an interview with Charlie Spedding after the 84 Olympics and he said that you find out if you're any good that way.
Geoff Smith was a firefighter and he said all firefighters (used to) run- keep them in shape for fighting fires. -

LOL Oh man this would be such a circus in the USA. Every other kid would have a note from a doctor getting him out of it And the poor gym teachers who would have to handicap this thing so that every child finishes at the same time so not to shame anyone. Oh and lets not even talk about the weather the rules for it being to hot, to cold, to dry, to wet, surface to hard, surface to soft.............

We should do this in America. And, it would reduce the amount of medications kids are on. First, it would reduce the amount of ADHD meds kids are on. Two, it would reduce school shootings. How? All these school shooters are on antidepressants. One of the side effects of these antidepressants is violent outbreaks/suicide. And what does aerobics exercise do? Improves mood and in some cases cures depression.

When I was in high school running was compulsory and because the school was in a town, we did cross country but it was on roads, everyone did it, no exceptions, and you also weren't allowed to wear trousers/joggers even if it was snowing, you had to wear gym knickers (bun huggers).
I don't agree with the last bit because I think it put a lot of girls off sport actually, but I agree that it was good to have the entire school year running. I only remember there being one girl who couldn't do it. Everyone else managed. We also did 100m, 200m, 300m, 800m and 1500m. That was the longest. People kicked up a fuss about the 1500m though. -
Calorie counts have been mandating by gov in the US for chain restaurants for a while, but the data on whether they make a difference seems to lean toward not making any difference.
More activity is a good thing, but I would incorporate this into fun activities. My fear is that it will backfire on running with far more kids being turned off of running than turned on.
I have a hypothesis that a lot of people hate running because it is associated with punishment: Miss a free throw in basketball and run a lap or run "suicides". -
The alien, leftist overlords that currently control Britain and much of the West will have this shut down, especially if anything good comes of it (from whites that is). Hell, the people in charge are connected in many ways to those who help certain third world nations and peoples get away with all manner of cheating in sports as part of their eh, programs to redirect the minds of Westerners. Look at all the self-haters and blame YT first palefaces there are in the West.

Not every school, and definitely not every day. But most schools with access to some greenery would inflict a run on their pupils at some point. And most kids regarded it as some kind of punishment.
I was one of the lucky ones. Cross country was preferable to being nailed to the wall on St. Tadger's Day. -

Reminds me of that scene from Legally Blonde - "I just don't think that Brooke could've done this, exercise gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy, happy people just don't shoot their husbands, they just don't..." - I fully endorse her logic! -

Sir Mohamed should be the spokesrunner for this.
