The point is that running some 400m races IS "working on his 800m time". Running the 400m is good for you.

With his 44.30 PB, when will Korir not be considered a crap 800m runner?
Nick Symmonds 400m PB is 47.45 and he has run 1:42.95
Korir is more than 3 seconds faster than him at 400m, so he should be more than 6 seconds faster than him at 800m. So he should be sub 1:37. 1:36.65?

With that strong finish today and 44.21 pb at 400m it`s a shame if this guy won`t hold the new WR in 2 years time from now.
