The other day I happened to be talking to a guy approaching 80 years old who went to UofO straight out of high school. He probably went there the same time as Phil Knight come to think of it. He talked about the East Grandstand coming down and mentioned that when he was going to school the East Grandstand was considered very old even then.
I hope they cleared out all the knowledgeable track fans. without them Larry Rawson wouldn't be able to talk about all the knowledgeable hayward field fans. you know the ones who know that the gun goes off means a race has started, and that the bell ringing means one more lap, and they also know that when the runners stop that the race is over.

FINALLY! What a glorious sight. Wish I could have witnessed them smash that ugly piece of rotting wood to bits.
Thank you for sharing.
I still got splinters from it in my arse. Guess I'll call them historical souvenirs.
I'm calling bullsquat on the splinters. I've never encountered any on the east stands, and I've been sitting there about 5-10 long days every year for decades. But the handrail on the stairway on the south end of the west stands is rife with splinters.

Did I say splinters? I meant "sprinters."
Damn autocorrect.

This is a very apt response. I wish important track and field could exist in the US outside of methville and I wish Larry Rawson would retire.
Maybe this has been addressed elsewhere and I missed it, but the thing I'm most concerned about with the new stadium is, will the seats still come up to the track so fans can high five athletes and get autographs on their victory laps? This, for me, was what made Hayward so wonderful, and unlike nearly all other venues...the opportunity to have that one on one with the competitors. That is what I most hope would be preserved.

Yup, definition of digging holes and filling them back up on the government's dime.

what kind of world do we live in if casually caring isn't enough?!!!?!!!?!!
one day the social media activists will realize that by simply proclaiming something just feels good but does not really do any good. Legal blockades or physical blockades are all that works.

Good. Smelled like pee, anyway.
This is so freaking true, for so long it did.
Judging by the pics of the new plans, I'd say yes. https://hayward.uoregon.edu/

Yeah, all I do when I go to track meets at Hayward is do drugs and listen to Larry as there are absolutely no other options. Very apt response indeed.
