Note that the $5,000 was a bonus for setting a record while representing Oiselle in competition, and she is returning $3,500 to Oiselle.

Appealing to the "she has a right to make a living" trope when very few actually do make a living off of this sport (as wejo correctly pointed out). Especially not 14.03 triple jumpers, which is what was when she started with Oiselle. They voluntarily tried to bridge the gap to what she should have been making when she started performing well, a level at which was not forseen when the contract started. They probably fully expected her to leave after the year was up, and they even offered to let her leave early after USATF (they had invested $8500 in her which for a company that size is a not-insignificant amount and the exposure at USATF would have helped recoup some of that).
Again, no problem with her leaving for Nike, just do it the right way.
