She never asserted she will win a gold medal in the marathon in the next Olympics, so you're being intellectually dishonest.. The above quotes are just hating, not constructive critique. It's pathetic.
"My next goal is to qualify in the marathon for Tokyo 2020 and win gold," she said in an exclusive phone interview with FloTrack on Monday afternoon.

Do you not understand English? Setting a goal and making it public is not even remotely the same thing as "asserting" that she will win a gold. What kind of sick person craps all over someone for setting big goals? The remarks here are actually mostly disparaging and pejorative and not unbiased analysis. I also agree that her goal seems unlikely to be achieved and watching her form vs. the elites is painful. But so what? Some of you people have severe emotional problems. GJ is an Olympic champ and was utterly dominant on the tri circuit/tour. She's also had success in the corporate world. On top of that she seems like a good and classy person.

https://www.flotrack.org/articles/6034776-triathlon-olympic-champion-gwen-jorgensen-switches-to-the-marathon-for-2020I'm well aware of the interview. Do you understand that words have meanings and that having something as a goal is not the same as asserting that you are going to do it?
It's a very untoward statement, showing little respect to her competitors who are far above her level in the event. It would be as laughable as a 2:20 male marathoner saying his goal is to win the Olympics in 2 years.
laughable, therefore she is ridiculed wrote:

So do you want her to have less ambitious goals or to lie about her goals?

What do I want? I don't have any preference for what she does or doesn't do. When she proclaims an unrealistic goal I might comment on how laughable her statement is.

You do have a preference or you wouldn't be posting here. She didn't become an Olympic champion by having modest goals. We could use more runners with lofty ambitions, not less. Laughing at someone for setting their sights high is pathetic.
Ever heard of Jordan Hasay?

Not even sure what is going on here.
1. I belive Gwen is a mid 2:20's marathoner. Lets say 2:25.
2. If she runs that at the Olympic Trials she will have a good chance to make the team.
3. If she makes the Olympic team and runs 2:25 in Tokyo, she might well be a top 10, medal contender, etc...
4. I don't like that she gets more attention than the runners who are faster.
5. She understands marketing.
6. I would rather see her post training stuff. Don't care about her kid. Good lord, I don't care about her kid. But that is what makes her marketable.
7. It's a compelling story for many people. I would much rather see Molly Huddle's and Emily Sisson's journey to the 2020 Olympic Marathon Team. But they are runners first. Gwen understands the marketing.
She has an Olympic gold medal. She completely dominated her sport for 2 years. I believe her body is adjusting to all this mileage and giving birth. I would like to see her race in 2 or 3 months and then a clearer picture of her progress can be made.
The results so far haven't been great. But that indoor 5k she ran shows she has good speed. This mileage has probably killed any kick she had. It's not time to panic just yet.
I basically agree with all of your points (maybe not #4).

No, I don't care what she does. I'm too indifferent to her to be a hater, and I don't think other people here hate her either. She talks big and doesn't back it up. That was a POOR showing last night. Do you dispute that?
Someone claimed people on this thread had only offered reasonable race criticisms which I showed to be false quoting many pathetic personal shots.
Then another claim was made that she asserted that she would win the gold in 2020 which I also showed to be a lie.
It was a below average race from her last night, which is irrelevant to the points I was raising/disputing.
It's pathetic to bash someone for having ambitious goals - we need more of it.

HER SPORT. NOT RUNNING. There is a huge difference.
Running is not conquered in less than 2 years, and she actually has 1 year and a half. It's not happening.
It takes years for adaptation to occur and for runners to get faster by seconds, especially on the elite level. She
will be facing runners who have been distance running for more than a decade, and those same runners are getting faster as
she tries to acclimate.
She has no shot at all, and will not even be close, which is why Molly laughed. It's quite sad to see this circus of hers going on while real true fast marathoners are out their during incredible things right now.

They are all out there killing it. And we are talking about Gwen's improbable journey to be an elite marathoner in less than 2 years?
I can't wait until this nonsense is over.
The real question is, will you: 1) Disappear 2) Halfheartedly backtrack and insist you're still correct 3) Actually won up to your mistakes When Gwen makes the team next year. I'll put my house on 1 or 2 :)

He typically does #2. See thread where he said he wanted it on the record that Galen was a 2:09 guy at best and then claimed to be right when he ran 2:06.
I love how scorpion runner continues to pretend that Jorgenson did not have an outstanding high school and college running history before switching to triathlon. It's good to not let facts get in the away of your emotional ranting that an Olympic Gold medalist gets too much attention.
