According to the USATF website, he's not in either the 5000 or 10000 fields. He's run a couple diamond leagues this year and I haven't heard anything...

Good move. He's not good enough. Should be doing marathons.
Ben can't wrap his head around the 10k. Why in the World would you think he could run a good marathon. Ben is an honest guy and he will be the first to admit that he doesn't love training enough to run a marathon. Plus he's too damn big.

You're totally right in saying he doesn't really want to thon...he did just squash other Americans in a half thon though...might not be accurate to say he's too big or not mentally set.

Exactly, according to Letsrun logic anyone can just "move up" and run better than they did at shorter distances for some reason

what?
He just won the NYC half marathon. 10k is a walk in the park for him, and being able to run a marathon wouldn't be the far off.
A half is completely different from a marathon. He won a sit-and-kick half-marathon in cold weather where he beat two 35-year-olds in 62:39. After the race he said "Today it crossed my mind that I never want to do a marathon for how long a half marathon felt." It's not gonna happen.
None of what anyone has said addresses the issue here... why isn't True running USA's? Has anyone heard anything? Injury? Focus on something else?
For the other events it lists people who had initially signed up but decided not to run for whatever reason. True isn't listed anywhere. Just seems strange.
Ben and his wife have hit the "Picky Bar" phase of their life. They're done.
Let's be real. True was always done. Never rose above the ranks of a C-lister. Should have stuck to skiing.

True has a medal from World XC.

Ben is one of those guys that has a few rabid haters on here for no reason whatsoever.
lol it's just a team medal
Where’s the brojo outrage about True skipping USAs? We just heard about how lame sprinters are for ditching, and I bet we’d hear all about it if other distance athletes (ex. NOP) weren’t running.

Not a few- just one turd that speaks out against him on virtually any Ben True thread. Kid must be miserable inside to harbor that kind of reaction for this long.
Didn’t he just run a 7:41 3k?

62 something for half marathon
7:41 for 3k at Ostrava meet, in which he got caught in bad position. Probably could've won if he had better race tactics.
8:23 at the Pre meet, which was a tactical race.
13:16 at the Stockholm meet.
Has had a pretty solid season so far. In my opinion he's underrated. And, after Rupp has been the best American born track runner over the last few years. Only American to win a distance event at a diamond league meet.

We definitely don't hate ben true. He's awesome. We hate the letsrun ben true lovers who, for reasons that are not clear, think he's a world beater and cannot be rational or objective about his talent and ability to put together a good performance in a big race. He's just not as good as many want him to be
Ben true is a great guy and great runner, but he's moved on to focus on his coffee business and had a great run
Ben is going to a wedding
So Ben was 6th at the Worlds in 2015 over 5000. I'd opine that is A-list. Yes, it's 3 years later and we'll see what he can do, but I'd say he's still a solid runner on the world stage. On the other hand, he was dropped in the Diamond League final last year with a bit under 2 laps to go.
As for the USA's. It is a fact that there is less incentive to run every fourth year, with no global championship team to qualify for. If you start talking about owing the fans an appearance, or patriotism, you are entering subjective territory that can be seen differently by different observers.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
