"We are thankful to Vin Lananna and the University of Oregon staff for a great thirteen years in Eugene, and we are honored and humbled by the chance to build the next chapter of success on Montlake"
No mention of their boss Robert Johnson. Is there something going on behind scenes or did UW pr people not let them praise a now rival coach? The Powells leaving Oregon for Washington: http://gohuskies.com/news/2018/6/18/track-field-maurica-andy-powell-take-over-uw-track-program.aspx
Bad blood at a Oregon? Powell's thank Lananna but not Johnson

Johnson has claimed every monetary incentive for PAC12 championships etc. that the Powell's are responsible for because he is head coach. With that alone what do you think.

Plus, I never once saw him thank/recognize them whenever he was interviewed on TV after national championships. Not saying he didn’t do it elsewhere. But he was clearly the only face of the program...and even with all the top NCAA finishers they’ve had go through there, very seldom did you see the Powells mentioned alongside them.

Noticed that as well. Not cool. -
Seems like nobody likes rojo ... in any form. The letsrun co-founder/troll, or the Oregon guy.

Could be that Powell is looking to hacer a larger xc team. It has to be difficult being a distance coach at Oregon, they focus a lot on track and winning championships. Perhaps Powell wants more control to recruit more distance runners and less on track kid's... just a thought.

Vin is the man.

Free agency period is in full swing I see. Athletes will also be able to transfer freely very soon. The head distance hire at UO will have a huge impact in terms of what they look like in the next 2 years. If they go with the “old head” pick kids will transfer, if they get the guy that the kids like they’ll be fine.

I'm shocked that the Powell's are going to Washington. Wow. That's the first I've heard of this.
However since they weren't head coaches at Oregon - which I didn't know - this makes perfect sense.
Now I'm looking forward to see what great things they can accomplish at Washington!
The distance runners at Oregon must be sorely disappointed. -

When will athletes be able to transfer freely? -
“It has to be difficult being a distance coach at Oregon”

I have have seen Coach Johnson mention the Powells several times. Btw, there is almost always a point where assistants in any professional either feel constrained, want more, feel unappreciated, are ready for the next step and/or feel they are just as important as the person in charge. That's the point where its time to move on. Unfortunately, the person charge does not always agree with the assistant and that's where the bad blood comes in. -

Bobby Johnson is a democrat piece of trash. We can’t wait for that affirmative action moron to get his comeuppance.
If you are truly a current member of University of Oregon Track & Field Program, only a walk-on who gets no money from the athletic department would make a statement that you made. I know a private detective who's a retired police sergeant. If I give him $500 he can find out the identity of anyone on letsrun. I assume Coach Johnson can do the same thing. Idiot!
I know someone could do it in 10-minutes for free. -
Well said TrackCoach.

I imagine they thanked Lananna because he hired them, not Johnson.

Snark is great but it doesn’t obscure the fact that there was major tension between Maurica and Johnson this year, as was reported in the Eugene R-G.

Just say no to Bobby Johnson
